For the longest time, the UK and most statistical agencies did not have a proper understanding of the number of people losing their jobs throughout the pandemic. All these variables lead to the unemployment rate staying stable at 3.9% for the longest time with a lot more people losing their jobs and the numbers not adding up. Additionally, there were predictions that there would be a massive unemployment issue as soon as the furlough scheme stopped, which was likely to happen at the end of October, according to a statement by Government officials.
