Packing Essentials Every Traveler Needs To Know

With everything that you need to worry about while traveling, including your lodging, flights, and accommodations, the last thing that you need to worry about when going on a vacation is your luggage. However, there’s no denying that getting packed and making sure that everything’s ready isn’t a walk in the park. It’s most often one of the most daunting things you’d have to do when going on a vacation. The good thing is, it doesn’t have to always feel this way, especially with these packing tips from our travel experts.

Minimize Packing Liquids As Much As Possible

If you’re a frequent traveler, you pretty much know by now that liquids aren’t allowed inside the airport, but yet, some people are trying to sneak in a bottle of water. According to European-baggage restrictions, people should not carry more than 100ml of liquid in their hand-carried luggage. It should also fit in a 1-L bag which you can find right before you pass through airport security. If you have liquids of more than 100ml, make sure that you stow them away in your checked-in suitcase.

Bring Emergency Meds With you

You don’t have to carry a list of all the different meds that you can possibly think of. Just the common pills and medications that you need just in case you get a headache, a tummy ache, or for those little cuts or splinters that you could get during your vacation. The last thing that you want to happen is for your headache, your upset tummy, or your fever to ruin your beautiful holiday. Some people think that they can easily purchase medications once they’re in a foreign country, but sometimes, some OTC meds you have might require prescriptions. So make sure that you bring them along with you, including asthma remedies if you have asthma, or some allergy meds as well.

Use Name Tags

Unless you want to stay under the radar and you are doing stuff that people shouldn’t know, name tags are pretty much helpful wherever you go. Nowadays, suitcases come with name tags – all you need to do is to fill up the information just in case the airline, or you’ve accidentally lost your luggage!

Make Sure You’re Aware of Luggage Restrictions

Each airline has different restrictions when it comes to luggage weight. Make sure that you read the fine print before checking in and weigh your luggage before leaving to avoid future problems.

If it’s indicated that your limit is 23 kgs, then they mean it – don’t go over it! Make sure that you weigh your luggage before you go to the airport to make sure that you’re within the limitations. Otherwise, you might be forced to pay extra for the fee, or you might have to re-pack and move things in between your bags until the weight restrictions are met.

Don’t Bring Too Many Shoes

When you’re on a holiday, the number of pairs of shoes that you bring might depend, but we believe that it’s pretty reasonable to bring with you about 3 pairs for a 2-week vacation. You’d want to pick a pair of shoes that is versatile so you don’t have to take up a lot of space in your luggage. You don’t want to bring a pair of stilettos and wear them on your hiking trip, don’t you? Wear your biggest / most bulky shoes when you board the plane, then pack your shoes with socks stuffed inside to help you save some space.

Bring Cosmetics – At A Minimum!

Wherever you’re going, you’re most likely to pick up a good and popular body wash and shampoo brand – so don’t bother bringing large-sized containers with you. If you have a particular cream or product that you really can’t live without, get one of those travel-sized jars and bring a small amount with you, enough for your trip. Bring smaller or travel packs and you can discard the empty containers, saving you some luggage space once you’re going home.

Bring Your Adapters

Don’t forget these, and you’ll save a huge chunk of money when buying them from the airport.

Roll Your Clothes

While some people still debate that this isn’t the most ideal way to pack your clothes, we personally think that this is the best and the only way to go when packing your bags. It can help prevent clothes from wrinkling, and it’ll give you a lot of space. With all of these things being said, we also want to…

  • Allocate luggage space for your souvenirs and other holiday purchases.
  • Never overstuff your luggage – it always ends up badly.

Most of the time, you’ll be bringing more stuff going back from your vacation, so be prepared and make sure that you have enough room to accommodate all of these.

Always be careful with the fragile things you’ll bring along with you.

Make use of a bubble wrap or stuff the breakables in-between clothes so they won’t get damaged during your trip. If possible, take those breakables with your hand-carried luggage making sure that it is handled properly and with care.

All essential things should always be in your carry-on.

Airlines don’t often lose luggage, but you don’t want to take the risk. Keep all your belongings safe with you, including your jewelry, gadgets, diamond engagement ring, camera, and other luxury goods in your hand luggage.
