Reliable Energy Sources for Living Off the Grid

It’s estimated that 1.7 billion people in the world live off the grid. While for some, it’s a necessity, for others, it’s a satisfying way to be self-sufficient.

You might be curious about this lifestyle, especially if you’re sick of forking over large amounts of money over to utility companies.

If you’re interested in living off the grid, then you’ll need some reliable energy to power you through the day and night, sunshine and rain. Otherwise, you’ll be out of luck!

Read on for some ways to get off-the-grid power.

Solar Energy

One of the easiest ways to get off the grid is to install solar panels. You can get as many solar roof tiles as you want to suit your needs.

What’s even better is that you can choose to still be partially on the grid if you wish. Otherwise, you can install as many panels is needed to power your home completely.

You can even use them to charge up lithium batteries. This article explains more.

Wind Energy

If you have the land for it and you get plenty of strong winds in your area, then you can install wind turbines. There are 2 types: horizontal and vertical axis.

Whichever one you choose, it can be a good idea to get a solar-wind hybrid system. That way, if you don’t get enough sun or wind on certain days, the other can supplement the missing energy so you aren’t left without power.

Hydro Energy

Do you live next to running water, such as a creek or river? Then hydro power is a choice too!

The issue is you’ll need to set up a system that might be a bit complicated to properly harness the energy of water. But once you get it going, it’s possible to get super-clean energy! This is because it doesn’t use pollute the air nor does it burn any fuels.

As a result, you’ll get to power your home without feeling guilty about what it took to do so!

Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy is a relatively new type of renewable energy. This is where you draw energy from hot springs or pools.

Of course, you’ll have to be located somewhere that has these things. In addition, geothermal energy can be expensive to implement, so it’s best used for lower energy purposes. For example, many people use geothermal energy for heating their floors.

Get Reliable Energy When Living off the Grid

Having reliable energy when you’re living off the grid is a must. Otherwise, you might be stuck in a dangerous situation, whether it’s because temperatures are too low or you’re starving because you can’t cook any food.

So take the above options into consideration and explore what it’ll take to get set up. From there, you can then set yourself up for a sustainable lifestyle!
