Renal Transplantation Surgery: Road to a Better Future

The kidneys serve as the body’s main detoxification system. It is the organ of the body that serves as the primary filter. They are in charge of filtering the blood, removing the toxins from it, or excreting it into the gastrointestinal tract. The kidneys are vital organs that must undergo transplantation to make it possible to provide proper medical treatment for patients. The kidneys are removed by a surgical procedure known as renal transplant surgery. It is the transplant that does the work of eliminating toxins from the body.

It is a surgical procedure that helps to preserve the function of the kidneys. It is a very invasive operation that requires the insertion of a large needle into the abdominal cavity of a patient and it requires the patient to have a long recovery. It is done in a medical center where patients are treated in a medical intensive care unit. Thus, below are some of the benefits of renal transplant surgery.

  • Better quality of life– Renal transplantation is said to be the only operation that improves the quality of life of dialysis patients. It allows them to get better care and also reduces their chances of having complications related to artificial kidneys. This is the one benefit of transplant surgery that people have always wanted to experience. It is a surgical procedure that has a definite positive effect on people’s quality of life.
  • Lower risk of death– Many people with end-stage renal disease have long histories of kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease is usually hereditary and is a risk factor for death in many patients. It is argued that patients who have kidney disease have a higher chance of dying from other causes. And if a person has end-stage renal disease, it makes it more likely that they will die than if they are not suffering from kidney disease. But, there is a lower risk of death in renal transplantation. This is because patients are generally younger, the operation is a less traumatic procedure, and the recovery is faster. All the difficulties involved in the operation are made much easier by the fact that the surgery is done in a medical center.
  • Improved strength– Patients who undergo renal transplantation tend to have better muscle strength than they did before they had the transplant. It is possible, in some cases, for even the weakest person to lift and carry heavy objects. Renal transplant recipients often have a longer life span and stronger muscles than those who do not receive a transplant. This may be the result of increased muscle cells than those of the recipient.
  • Fewer dietary restrictions– Patients who undergo renal transplantation tend to have fewer restrictions on their diets. This is because they do not have to follow a special diet after the transplant. They can eat whatever they like, and they are allowed to eat three meals a day, unlike those who do not receive a transplant. This is one of the biggest benefits of a kidney transplant as it is not limited by diet. Since a person no longer needs to follow a special diet, they can eat whatever they want and lead a more active lifestyle.
  • Fewer hypertension medications– Patients who receive a renal transplant are much less likely to require antihypertensive medications than those who do not receive a transplant. This is because the transplanted kidney can produce more of the hormone that controls blood pressure. Also, the drugs they need to take are simpler, and the side effects are fewer. Hypertension medications can have side effects, such as depression, dizziness, or headaches. After a kidney transplant, many of these medications can be stopped.
  • Lower treatment cost– The cost of a kidney transplant varies according to the location of the transplant. Transplants done in medical centers tend to be more expensive than transplants done in the community, which is why they are preferred by some patients. The cost of a transplant depends on where the procedure is performed, how long it takes, a patient’s financial situation, and a patient’s health insurance status.
  • A more normal fluid intake– A more “normal” fluid intake was one of the first benefits of a kidney transplant. People who receive a transplant tend to feel emptier and are less thirsty. They also notice that foods they once disliked can now be eaten without feeling guilty. Not only do these benefits limit how much fluid a person may drink, they also ensure that the person drinks adequate amounts of water.

Although potential recipients face challenges when determining the health of their new kidney, transplantation is an effective treatment for most kidney failure patients in the best kidney transplant hospitals. In order to increase the number of people who are able to receive a transplant and potentially live long and productive lives, it is important that individuals are well informed about the transplant and its risks and benefits. It is also important that recipients are well supported by medical providers, family, friends, and health care systems throughout the transplant process.
