A Love of Comics Leads Richard Case to an Impactful and Successful Illustration Career
After graduation from the Rhode Island School of Design, Richard Case stepped into the first of many roles to build his career and hone his illustration and comic book artistry skills. Getting his feet under him in the industry, 1985 saw Case as the illustration assistant for Walk Simpson (artist or Marvel’s Thore from 1983-1987).
Since those early days, Case has put his mark on the pages of both Marvel and DC comics before illustrating his wit to educate the world on the car insurance industry. His credited bibliography includes, but isn’t limited to, pages in Wonderwoman, The Books of Magic, Gemini Blood, Ghostdancing, Legends of the DC Universe, Sandman, and Vertigo.
Inspired by Family Tragedy
Richard Case found inspiration for his series about auto insurance in the world of superheroes after a family member was injured in a motor vehicle accident, and the insurance situation delayed treatment and repairs because of the nebulous nature of the industry. Since then, he’s been involved in fundraisers for fellow artists whose auto collisions or other damages have impacted.
One such fundraiser was for fellow artist and gaming industry intern Ana Kessel. Richard Case auctioned off an original print on eBay with all benefits going to his friend, who lost her leg in a car vs. pedestrian hit-and-run incident. Ana isn’t the first or the last friend Richard has put forth his artwork to support. His series featuring heroes and their insurance needs is a project to help people understand the importance of auto insurance for everyone on the road.
Car Insurance Can be Hard to Understand – Richard Case Illustrated a Comic Series to Help Educate Drivers
The series that Richard Case put out to help educate drivers on the importance of car insurance and how the different coverages work is based on the idea that there are a lot of crazy damages involved in a superhero world. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what incidents are covered by which policy coverage. However, using superheroes and supervillains as your subject when explaining, you can give fun and engaging examples.
Most people find it easier to understand a new or complex concept if they’ve got relatable and engaging references to the situations they might use it in. Comics have been a keystone to our culture since the late 1800s with The Yellow Kid in McFadden Flats. Before that, there were political illustrations in newspapers and images in story books.
The Series of Comics About Auto Insurance for People in the MCU is Available Online for Anyone Who Wants to Learn More
This series answers tough questions about insurance, such as “What happens if a super-villain steals and wrecks my car?” or, in a more mundane rendition, “my car was stolen, and police found it wrapped around a tree two towns over, is the replacement of the car covered?”
If you’ve ever had a question about insurance or what is covered, this comic series is a fun way to look at these questions without pointing a finger. No more need for, “What can insurance do if your bumper comes off when you’re camping? Asking for a friend.” because Richard Case’s illustrations cover that.
