Save Money on Your Next Vacation with These Travel Hacks

It’s understandable if it’s been a while since your last trip. With COVID-19 vaccinations rolled out in many regions, travel is beginning to open up again.

Some things have changed when it comes to travel, and perhaps you’re rusty and could use a quick refresher course. Here are some travel hacks you can use on your next vacation to save money.

Drive Yourself to the Airport

Today, a new model gives you the best airport parking deals that make driving yourself to the airport more cost-effective than taking a taxi or ride-share. Instead, book a parking spot online at a hotel beside the airport, even if you’re not staying there yourself, and take a free shuttle to your terminal.

All you need to do is show the parking attendant your reservation when you arrive and board the shuttle. Such a model saves you up to $200 per trip, and some companies offer points to make your airport commute even cheaper.

Eat Food from Home

Before, airport food was overpriced and not very tasty. Today, many airports have upped their game by offering food from high-quality local restaurants. However, it will still cost you a pretty penny.

Restaurants in the city know that you have many different eating options, adjusting their prices accordingly. Airports don’t have this concern because they know people are stuck inside.

Save big by bringing snacks and even a meal from home. You can control the portion size, nutrition level, and, of course, the flavour. It’s probably wise to pack food that isn’t messy and can be neatly eaten once you’re on the plane or in the terminal.

Don’t Check-in Luggage Unnecessarily

Many airlines charge fees for travellers who check-in their bags. The way around this, then, is to simply not check in your bag!

If you can, bring what you’ll need for the vacation aboard the plane with you. When everyone else is waiting for their bags at the luggage carousel, hoping their bags aren’t lost, you’ll be at the head of the line for a taxi.

Checking in luggage may be necessary for longer trips, but you don’t need to check in two. It’s smart to have luggage that you know fits into the overhead compartment and pack it as fully as possible. If you’re bringing items that are prohibited on the plane, make sure you check them in! Otherwise, security may confiscate them.

You Know What Entertains You

Nobody knows what you enjoy better than you. Don’t forget to pack things like a book to read or music to listen to and any accessories you’ll need, like headphones, an e-reader, or whatever else.

Yes, they sell magazines and electronic knickknacks you can buy in a pinch, but they’re usually extra expensive. Don’t forget to pack what will keep you busy on the plane and ensure it’s easily accessible.

Shake off the travel cobwebs and remember these hacks, and you can enjoy some significant savings for your next trip.
