Signs of an Infestation – Importance of Pest Control

As a homeowner, pest control and infestations usually are something we only ever think about when they happen. Otherwise, we’re blissfully ignorant (while secretly hoping it never happens!). To keep on top of your home, we have the top signs of an infestation below!

1. Droppings

Although it sounds obvious, the first sign of an infestation in your home is seeing droppings. Traditionally, the easiest to spot comes from mice and rats. On the other hand, it’s difficult to see the waste from bed bugs and other small pests. As well as fecal droppings, look for urine stains in the garage and on baseboards in the house.

2. Grease Marks

Typically, rats and mice will follow the same tracks over and over again. Eventually, this leads to grease marks and tracks. With rats especially, they’re infamous for running along walls and leaving darker grease spots wherever they go.

3. Plant Damage

Some homeowners spot damage to their outdoor plants and on the edges of grass blades in the garden. What’s more, other signs include brown patches on the lawn or even an uneven lawn altogether. Unfortunately, the garden is home to plenty of pests. This includes:

  • Grubs
  • Moles
  • Voles
  • Beetles
  • Flies
  • Chinch bugs
  • Crickets

4. Nests

When it comes to rodents, they’re flexible creatures, and they make nests out of whatever they find. As well as leaves and grass shavings, this also includes shredded paper and other household items. Of course, most pests like to stay out of the way, and they like warm, moist corners. When searching your home, look between walls and underneath the flooring. If you aren’t confident checking yourself, work with professionals who know the signs.

5. Smells

While pests might be able to hide from you, they can’t cover up their smell (we’re yet to find a pest that brings their own plug-in air fresheners!). For example, you might get urine and musty odors with a mouse. On the other hand, people often know they have rats because of the ammonia smell. Elsewhere, roaches can smell oily.

6. Sounds

As well as the smells, pests often give their position away when making sounds. If we take rats and mice as an example again, you might hear their scratching, squeaking, gnawing, or scurrying. With smaller bugs, it might be possible to hear their movement if you remove all other sounds and listen carefully.

Importance of Pest Control

Should you contact pest control after spotting one of the signs of infestation above? Yes, and there are several reasons why. While some pests carry certain diseases, others will cause harm to your pets or damage your property. You might think that small pests can’t cause harm, but a severe infestation can damage the property’s structural integrity while tearing baseboards and ripping apart cellars/attics. This kind of damage can be avoided with attic cleaning.

If you’ve spotted a problem, contact a Pest Control company today. As a professional service, they have the equipment and experience you need to quickly and efficiently deal with the pest problem. With a professional service like those offered by (neighbourhoodpestcontrol.com.au), you shouldn’t have to worry about the problem returning any time soon. Even if it’s a commercial property, pest control is just as important; otherwise, you’ll have ill members of staff, destroyed stock, and other problems.

If you’re reading this as a precautionary measure, it’s always good to keep an eye on your property and be proactive in keeping your home/business free from pests. With the right pest control service, you’ll not only remove existing pests but keep them away, whether it’s rodents, fleas, ants, roaches, or spiders!
