Signs that Show Your Roof Needs Urgent Repair

Although the roof is one of the parts of the house we see every day, it is also one of the most neglected. There is a general belief that roofs are supposed to last long, but this only applies to quality roofs in the absence of natural disasters. To avoid the unpleasant surprise of a water leak or other events caused by a damaged roof, below are some of the signs to look out for:

Sagging of the Roof

This is one of the glaring signs that show that your roof needs the attention of a roofing contractor. Dynasty building solutions advise an urgent investigation when the roof is noticeably sagging anywhere even without a leak.

Although sagging does signify an imminent danger, tackling the underlying cause of this sign can save you lots of trouble in the future. You can contact a team of roofers to carry out a thorough survey of the roof.

Missing Shingles

This is another sign that your roof needs repair or an entire replacement. Apart from the danger of having missing shingles exposes you and your family, it also makes your home stand out but not in a good way. You don’t have to wait until your shingle falls off entirely before paying it attention, cracked shingles or curling shingles are also signs of impending damage. A cracked shingle usually means that the roof is getting to the end of its useful life while a curled one whether at the middle or end, signifies that the roof is close to developing leaks. When you notice this sign, you can consider a repair or full replacement based on the severity of the situation. A total replacement is usually the best course of action unless you don’t mind your roof looking like a checkerboard due to the mixture of old and new shingles.

Your Roof is Past The Stipulated Years Of Functionality

Roofs usually come with the stipulated amount of years that they can work effectively, and when your roof is nearing this age, it reduces efficiency. In order words, if your roof’s lifespan is 25 years and above, there is a chance that your roof would start showing signs of damage as your roof approaches this 25 years benchmark. So it is important to get it thoroughly inspected to know if there are damages. It is also necessary to start considering the possibility of a full roof replacement.

Roof Covered With Lichen

Old roofs collect debris over time, and soon, it becomes a conducive place for algae, moss, and mold to grow. The appearance of lichen on the roof is a natural occurrence, but it can lead to more serious problems when ignored. Algae, mold, and mosses grow in places that do not receive adequate sunlight; therefore, when choosing a roofing style for your home, consider its exposure to sunlight. Power washing is an effective method for removing lichen depending on the material of the roof. Some types of roofs like tile roofs can withstand this method, but others like asphalt shingle cannot.

Presence of Granules in Your Gutter

Asphalt shingles roofs usually come with granules on its surface. This material is for the protection of the roof from the harsh effect of the sun. When you start seeing these granules in your gutters, it could be a sign of impending damage. Shedding of these granules means can leave the asphalt open to the sun rays and in turn cause the roof to deteriorate. Sometimes, shedding off of granules does not mean trouble for a new roof as it is normal for them to come off once in a while.

Light Seeping Through Your Roof

This is one of the most glaring signs that show you need a roof repair. It is important to pay close attention when you discover light seeping into your room when it is far. You can carry out a test by switching off all your lights when the day is getting dark. If lights still seep through the roof, it means there are holes or cracks on the roof.

Traces of Water In The Attic

After a rainstorm, the best course of action is to check the attic for signs of a leak. When you discover traces of moisture in the attic, it is a glaring sign that your roof will need repair.

Before making any serious decisions concerning your roof, it is important to seek the advice of a professional.
