Some of the Best Car Stunts in the Movies

Over the last few decades, many stuntmen and drivers have performed some of the most memorable and thrilling car stunts in the history of cinema, giving audiences cold sweats and jimjams. The audiences, however, hardly know about these real-life superheroes who make all those heart-thumping action scenes possible. It’s high time that we appreciate not just these men and women and the work that they have done, but also all the amazing cars in these movies. Did you know that you might be able to find some of these vehicles among used cars for sale in Dubai? The experts at CarSwitch.com did some research to share the details with you.

Casino Royale: Adam Kirley

The team behind the 2006 movie practiced the Aston Martin scene with a cheaper BMW, only to realize later that the Aston Martin was too stable to roll over. The Bond team resorted to the old stuntman favorite: The gas cannon. Even though Kirley knew that if he doesn’t get it right, he would end up midway up a smattering of pine trees. He punched the metal ram and completed seven barrel-rolls. This was more than had ever been seen doing before, setting a Guinness World Record for most intentional barrel rolls in a car.

Thunderbolt

Set in Hong Kong this Jackie Chan classic is packed with car action. Chan plays a part-time race-car driver and also served as a stunt coordinator on the film. Co-facilitator Frankie Chan took care of the vehicle stuff, but Yat-Sun Chan and Yamson Domingo did the greater part of the driving. The stunt incorporates a race vehicle bouncing through a tower in a fabulous style and then parking the Mitsubishi Evo III in a way never recorded on camera before.

The Fast and the Furious

Tim Trella and Christopher J. Tuck created one of the most famous scenes of this series. Tim Trella is the one behind the wheel in the 1970 Dodge Charger when it crashes into a big rig and goes flying upside down over the Toyota Supra. Christopher J.Tuck was the one driving the Supra. The two stuntmen had excellent timing creating this scene.

Honorable Mention – The Blues Brothers

Going from the crazy to the silly, Blues Brothers featured a great deal of grandiosity with all the stunts in the movie. 13 Blue mobiles were used and destroyed in the movie. One blue mobile went through intensive mechanical work so that it could fall to pieces in the last scene. Moreover, in one of the scenes, 130 cars were destroyed. The movie held the record for destroying the maximum number of cars at that time.  Though these stunts may not seem like much in the current era, they were the best of that time.

Black Panther

The car chase scene in Black Panther, which sees T’Challa clutching to the roof of a Lexus LS 500 F-Sport and riding through Seoul, features the stunt performer Darrin Prescott. In the movie, T’Challa is almost never inside a car, he’s usually jumping from car to car, and surfing on their roofs. Most of this chase was done practically, including the big crash. It took nine days to shoot this scene, which is said to have 700 people and 150 cars. What’s even more interesting is that six hand-built Lexus LC 500 early prototypes were provided.

Mad Max: Fury Road

The Polecats scene never really used any CGI. The CGI involved was only to remove the cables from the scene after it was shot. Stunt facilitator Guy Norris had 150 stuntmen holding tight to speeding vehicles and swinging while fake breezes blew through them. It took around two months to plan for it.

These are just a few of the many car stunts in the movies which were performed by the bravest of men and women. These stunts did use the necessary safety precautions. However, there was not much CGI involved in these scenes.
