Some of the Best Travel Tips from a Trip to Hong Kong

This is my fourth time in Hong Kong, but this time I’m taking notes to help travellers think about it. Most of what I am about to share should apply to any trip. For example, you will need to get vaccinated for typhoid in China so that you can avoid this illness and remain in good health during your trip.

Embedded luggage

Hong Kong is a shopping paradise with extremely competitive prices – I found some out-of-the-way places that offer goods for half the price I was used to. It is not unreasonable to have more than half the weight of your luggage at the exit than at the entrance. On my first trips, I bought an extra bag to hold all the items I bought, but that was before I came up with the good idea of using embedded luggage. Go to a luggage storage facility and you will find that luggage is sold in shell sizes – basically the same bags, but different sizes. Like Russian dolls, you can actually put the smaller bag in the larger one, which I did on my trip, put my things in the smaller one and put them in the larger one in an instant. I have an extra bag for all my stuff!

Expect the carousel

So, there I was with my big black upright luggage packed full as I thought about the inevitable situation in the airport carousel. To facilitate the detection of my luggage, I tied a red ribbon to the handle. Satisfied with my excellent idea, I sat down for my trip. When it was time to collect my bags in the arrival area, I kept an eye on my paperwork to notice that almost everyone had a black roll bag the same size as mine, and surprisingly, most of the bags were in the red. ribbon! No green, no yellow, no red. Everyone had the same idea. I would never have believed it if I had not seen it myself, so it was not as easy to find my bag as I thought it would be. On my return trip, I put both bureaucratic tape and duct tape on the handle to make my bag easier to spot. You may want to do the same or try a ribbon other than red. Standing in the carousel, I saw the bags with unusual colours or unique patterns, these were very easy to spot – it’s something to keep in mind when shopping for luggage.

Oh taxi

Hong Kong drivers are friendly, knowledgeable and extremely professional. Cabins are usually Toyota Crown or Comfort – large cars with five passenger restraints, bags are placed in the trunk or trunk that can be shared open if there is too much luggage – with an elastic band to hold them inside. things attached. One thing pilot may not be comfortable with is English. In my experience, it does not even work to say an address with slow intonations. One thing that has been done is to bring a map of Hong Kong and indicate your destination. I got one before I left my home airport, but there should be one at Hong Kong Airport – just mark your destination and show it to the driver.

Location is everything

Another seemingly wise move on my part was to book a hotel just off the tourist trail to take advantage of the lower prices. What a terrible mistake it was. As I walked out of the hotel lobby, I found myself in the middle of dilapidated slaughterhouses and warehouses far from trains and having trouble finding taxi ranks; I found that I had to travel a bit to get to the places I wanted to go. Needless to say, I had to change my reservation for a better location. In Hong Kong city tours, I recommend staying on the Kowloon side and walking distance from Nathan Road. The biggest advantage is that you can stay out late at night and still be within walking distance of your hotel. Plus, Kowloon is a great hotel as you can walk along the bay and admire the stunning Hong Kong skyline – one of the most famous skylines in the world. It is something to see, especially at night.

MTR

MTR is Hong Kong’s railway system. At first, I stood aside, worried about how confusing it might be and how I might get lost. Fortunately, something happened that made me use MTR. As a real tourist, I would go to Disneyland in Hong Kong. So, I got out of my hotel and sat in a taxi and said

The “Disneyland” driver only saw him shake his head. Taxis in Hong Kong are available in two colours: red and green. Red is for the centre, and green can bring you outside.

To exchange money

My father talked to changers in Hong Kong who were from the same country as us. When he was a countryman, they gave my father a very good price. Too good. My dad asked them how they would make money at this rate. They told her that everything was fine, a while ago Russian girls wanted their money to change, and these unfortunate girls got an exorbitant exchange rate, which they might out of naivety or, yes, maybe rich, take without blink. So be careful, the exchange rates may be completely different depending on where you changed your money. I visited four or five places before I got a rate that I am happy with. Your best chance is not hotels or banks. There are a few small shift shops on the side streets off Nathan Road. I got a lot from a store initially, but the clerk was on a break, so I decided to hike for a while. A few meters away I found a small shop with an even better price. Be patient. The competition for your money is fierce in Hong Kong.

Luggage quality

A few minutes after my father left the hotel to help my brother transport luggage, I heard a knock on the hotel door. It was my father; the wheels of the rolling luggage broke as he walked along the sidewalk. This equipment failure showed how important luggage quality is. Since we could not get it running, we had to struggle with this luggage all the way home – there was no question of buying a new one. Remember the oft-quoted saying, “You cannot afford to have quality.”

You know what, I was too busy talking about this jewelry store. I forgot to mention Ocean Park. Ocean Park is big just like Disneyland is small. If you want to take all the walks and see everything I can think of, Ocean Park needs two days. If you have to choose and not miss the Grand Aquarium, it’s great.
