The Benefits Of Early Orthodontic Treatment

A visit to the orthodontist is important from the moment your child starts eating food. Naturally, most kids have well-positioned teeth leading to a beautiful smile. However, many of them might get afraid of visiting the dentist, and their teeth might start developing abnormally. This could affect their smile, how they speak and pronounce words, and it could even degrade their overall oral health.

As a caring parent, taking your child to an orthodontist is the right thing to do. Your regular dentist will refer you to an orthodontist if they suspect teeth asymmetries and problems with juvenile teeth. Let’s take a look into the benefits your children enjoy from having an early orthodontic diagnosis and treatment.

Improves Self Confidence

Many children face humiliation and bullying from their peers at school due to their teeth misalignment. Some of them even are afraid to attend classes because of their teeth appearance. A simple visit to the orthodontist to place the new invisible braces (Invisalign) could rapidly fix their smile and how their teeth appear.

That alone could improve your children’s self-confidence and let them be proud of their smile. With better teeth, your child could grow in confidence and this could eventually lead to the bullying stopping. This is because sometimes, appearance and confidence plays a major role in who is bullied and who is not.

Lowers The Risk Of Tooth Decay

Juvenile teeth that have arisen in the mouth cavity in an abnormal position are difficult to clean. No matter the type of toothbrush you are using, there is always a danger of leaving some tooth surfaces unattended. By placing braces, your orthodontist makes it easier for your kids to brush their teeth and avoid gingivitis that can lead to tooth decay, even at such a young age.

Digestion Becomes A Lot Easier

If you don’t already know it, your mouth is the first part of your digestive system. Your teeth cut and smash incoming food, mixing it with digestive enzymes in the saliva to create a digestible mixture that goes further into your stomach. Teeth that are not properly aligned could make it harder for your kids to digest food and create gut disorders, like gases and constipation. A visit to your orthodontist usually reveals the problem and will allow for the placement of braces to align the jaws. That makes food smashing and digestion a lot easier.

Improves The Position Of The Adult Teeth

Juvenile teeth appear by the age of two and could still be there when your kid goes to primary school. However, their life cycle ends when the adult teeth start rising from the jawbones. Although this teething procedure occurs naturally to most children, some of them may have issues with their teeth positioning or may have suffered from oral accidents and juvenile tooth fractures. Your orthodontist could easily diagnose such problems and try some simple surgical procedures to liberate the adult teeth track. Otherwise, your kids’ adult teeth would rise above the juvenile ones creating an aesthetically unpleasant image when your kids talk or smile.

Reduces The Risk Of Night Bruxism And Teeth Grinding

Some kids face abnormal muscle contractions in their masseters. Massetters are the main muscles that move the jaws and help with food smashing. That condition is known as bruxism and usually appears in young children during their night sleep. A lighter condition similar to bruxism is called teeth grinding and occurs when the upper and lower jaw teeth rub against the other, producing an awful sound. Defective teeth alignment is the main cause of such conditions which could permanently damage your kids’ juvenile or adult teeth. Visiting your orthodontist and applying braces or taking an oral drug that relaxes the jaw muscles may prevent such episodes from occurring.

Aligns Your Jaw Bones Smoothly

Kids grow fast, and so do their jawbones. These bones host both their juvenile and adult teeth. The pressure exerted on the jawbones is directly related to the positioning of the opposite teeth. A better alignment of your kids’ juvenile teeth would create more beneficial conditions for normal jaw development. Your orthodontist is more likely to diagnose a jaw displacement disorder and fix it by using early prevention techniques (including braces and drugs). Waiting could make their jawbones take a misaligned position that is hard to treat as an adult.

Looking for the right orthodontist to check your kids’ oral health and teeth alignment is essential for their oral health. Their smile deserves all the dental care and prevention you can give them.
