Are you curious about how much the cost of living in Canada will be in 2022? Well, you’re in luck. We’ve got all the details about the Canada living cost in this article. Canada is a land of economic extremes. Decades ago, high energy costs drove up inflation and contributed to widespread stagflation.

However, more recently, low-interest rates have spurred a housing collapse that shows no sign of slowing down. Vancouver and Toronto have been hit the hardest.  Keep reading to find out exactly what to expect in regard to Canada living costs.

Is It Expensive to Live in Canada?

The cost of living in Canada is fairly low compared to many other developed nations. However, a few things are relatively expensive, including food, gas, and taxes. The cost of housing varies widely across the provinces and territories.

Vancouver and Toronto are the most expensive cities to live in. Although others such as Saint John and NB are comparably high.

The Cost of Living in Canada: Housing

The Bank of Canada has indicated that interest rates will likely rise very slowly due to an uncertain global economy during this time period. This, combined with the fact that most developed economies are printing money at a faster rate, will result in huge amounts of liquidity sloshing through Canada.

People living near larger cities may find that their cost of living has fallen due to the appreciation of their homes. However, those who live in downtown cores have likely seen costs skyrocket. The condo boom is well underway in most major cities.

Canada living costs will remain fairly low for small towns and rural areas. There are many affordable houses for sale in St. Albert.

Canada Living Cost: Food and Gas

The cost of food is expected to jump over the next five years. Many of Canada’s major trading partners are experiencing droughts or other natural disasters that will drive up food prices. This is true even as Canadian farmers increase their own production.

The price of gas will also increase dramatically over the next few years due to increased demand, particularly from China and India. Environmental concerns are largely irrelevant here. That’s because most analysts expect oil prices to stay low, regardless of what happens with green energy.

Sadly, the Canadian dollar is expected to remain relatively weak for this reason.
