The Complete Guide to Planning Disney World Trips for New Visitors

If you’ve been putting off a vacation since 2020, you’re not alone. Many people set aside their vacation plans for safety reasons, but now that restrictions are letting up, it’s time to start planning Disney World trips again.

Planning for a trip to Disney World isn’t as easy as it seems, especially if you want the vacation to go smoothly. We’re here to help. Read on for our brief guide on planning the perfect Disney World trip.

Make a Disney Trip Budget (And Start Saving)

Before you even buy your tickets, make sure that you have a budget. You should start saving for your trip months ahead of time unless you have a good amount of money saved up already.

It’s no secret that Disney World is expensive, but you get what you pay for. There are so many things to do once you’re at the parks that you’ll understand the high cost.

You may be able to save money through the Disney Vacation Club if you look for resale Disney Vacation Club listings, but you should build your budget with the basics in mind.

Remember that food is going to be expensive once you’re there. You may want to buy souvenirs and you’re going to need somewhere to stay (more on that later).

Give yourself a larger budget than you think that you’re going to need.

Create an Itinerary

If you’re going to Disney World by yourself or with a single friend or partner, you may not want a strict itinerary. That said, if you have a larger group and you want to get the most out of your trip, you’ll want a Disney vacation schedule.

Remember that certain parks have events at certain times of the day. If you want to catch every event on your list, you’ll need to schedule around them (unless you have a park hopper pass which gives you more flexibility).

Make sure that you include time for meals and breaks, especially if you have small children. It’s helpful to rest at the hotel sometime during the day.

Ask everyone in your group if there are any high-priority things on their Disney to-do list. You don’t want anyone to miss out on something that they really wanted to do!

Find the Right Hotel

Many people think that staying at an off-site hotel is the way to go, but this is a mistake. While Disney World hotels may seem more expensive on the surface, they give you access to a free shuttle (no paying for parking or Rideshare services!) and some fun activities. You can even get a ride to the Disney World boardwalk.

There are Disney hotels at all different price points and they all have different themes. You can pick the Animal Kingdom hotel where you can see animals from your window, the New Orleans-style hotel with a rustic feel, and more.

Take Advantage of Free Activities

While Disney World is expensive, there are a few free things that you can do while you’re there. Fit them into your schedule so you can save a few dollars while still having a great time.

You can take a scenic boat ride, visit the Disney boardwalk (no ticket required), or even have a family picnic. Check out the various free activities that Disney World has to offer.
