The difference between a research paper and a review paper

Being a student or a professional writer, the person comes across new things daily. There is much to learn and explore in the writing field because it a vast platform.

There are different kinds of articles, including review papers and research papers, when you research your labs or assignments. Both of them are scholarly sources; however, you need to understand every type of this paper and how it differs from the other source. This is where many people fail to understand the difference and mix them both. The question is, how can one identify the fundamental difference between both of the papers? There is a reference guide provided by the custom essay service too.

Here are four significant differences between a review paper and a research paper:

  1. A research paper is a primary source that is based on original research. Raw data is collected in the form of a survey, interview, and experiments by the authors. Later, they draw a conclusion that is based on the result of that analysis and investigations.

However, a review paper is the secondary source and is based on the already published articles. It does not report original research.

  1. A research paperhelps in serving the primary aim of reporting an explanatory and original document to allow the researchers to repeat and verify the experiment. It shows the distinctive and specific research of the author and the research question.

Whereas, the review paper serves the aim of analyzing and synthesizing the already present research that is already conducted and analyzed on primary sources. It summarizes the current state of the already done research and gives us an overview of it.

  1. There is a detailed explanation of the study that is conducted in a research paper. This involves the hypothesis, abstract, methodology, background study, discussions, and results. It also consists of the work’s general outcomes and its contribution to the survey done for further working.

Whereas, a review paper reports by distinguishing the similarities among the results of the chosen case study. Upon having disagreements, the authors search for the reasons to give for the conflicting results.

  1. The length of the research paperimplies the total word count that the journal states. The maximum limit of the word count ranges between 3000 till 6000 comments. However, the word count may reach 12000 terms for some journals according to its requirements.

Whereas, the word count for a review paper lies between 3000 to 5000 words. However, according to a journal’s requirement, a longer or a shorter review paper might also get published.

As mentioned earlier regarding a review and research paper, the facts are the basics that one needs to know before starting to work on some case studies. These differences count a lot and play a vital role in distinguishing and achieving higher grades. Once the concept gets clear, and there remains no ambiguity, the case study can be published under the new writer’s name. It solely depends on how well the case study is done and explained.
