Bamboo Flooring and Its Types
Bamboo flooring is considered a great alternative for hardwood floors. The bamboo floors are available widely in both forms, be it engineered flooring or solid planks of flooring. Moreover, the bamboo flooring options are highly considered to be durable, however, its types depend on the different construction methods used to prepare the final product. Bamboo flooring has three main types of construction methods that are available in the market.
Horizontal Bamboo Flooring
The bamboo for this one is cut into small and thin strips. The sticks are then put aside in order to dry them out and glue them together in horizontal form to make a plank for flooring. Furthermore, the layers of lacquer are added to protect the surface and offer finishing to the floor. This way the floor receives it’s proper fitting along with getting a wider and more evident pattern of solid bamboo floor.
Vertical Bamboo Flooring
Equivalent to the horizontal bamboo flooring, the process of manufacturing sticks in the form of vertical bamboo flooring also starts by being cut into the same small and thin strips. They also need to be put aside to be glued together but in vertical form this time. Here, the machine is used to add groove to the bamboo in order to add and make a perfectly fitted protective layer of lacquer. However, the end result of a vertical bamboo flooring is a thinner and less evident grain pattern of a solid plank.
The Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring
This bamboo flooring type is the most unique one among the other two. The bamboo stick for strand woven bamboo flooring is shredded into strands and fibres. These strands of bamboo sticks are put aside to dry and then receive extreme pressure to be compressed together. This helps in making the plank of flooring which receives a random grain pattern.
Moreover, the strand of woven bamboo is considered to be more stronger and versatile as compared to the other two bamboo flooring types. The reason is, it is compressed in a much better way which also gives it a click fitting profile. The woven bamboo flooring also highly resembles hardwood flooring as they both mainly consist of a click system which is designed to allow straightforward and simple installation. However, other than the hardwood flooring option, woven bamboo flooring is more preferable.
