The Pros and Cons of Living in Atlanta, Georgia

Being a permanent residence of Atlanta I found a good number of reasons to live here. But I should admit that there are some negative aspects as well. You will find the world’s best restaurants here with a wide variety of art and culture. Before taking your decision to move to Atlanta let’s take a quick look at the following advantages and disadvantages of living in Atlanta.

Pros of living in Atlanta

Here I find some of the significant reasons to live in this city:

Thriving Economy

Atlanta’s job market is superb! It’s stable having a diversifying scope of career. Before the last recession, the economy of Atlanta was super booming.

Economy at a glance:

  • 16 of the Fortune 500 Companies are in Atlanta
  • Major Companies: UPS, Delta Airlines and Home Depot
  • 75% of the Fortune 1000 have operations in Atlanta
  • Having the offices of more than 1,250 multinational corporations

Dine and Foods

As I mentioned earlier that world-class restaurants are available in this city which is mainly in Decatur, Inman Park, Virginia-Highland and Grant Park.

Gentle winters

The winter in Atlanta is quite warmer than in any other city in the USA and it is shorter as well. The average temperature is between 50s and 60s in the day time while 20s and 30s overnights.

Cost of living

This is super reasonable. Renting price is lower than the other major cities. Taxes are also lower than in some of the bigger cities. Maintaining your apartment is also affordable compare to the other bigger cities.

Things to do

You will be impressed by the dining opportunities and its scene. You will find everything from Music to sports and nightclubs, craft beers, comedy, art galleries and museums. So, lots of things to do here.

Cons of Living Here

Owning a Car is a Must

This city really has limited public transport facilities. And being a driving city you should have a car for must. If you are looking for a pedestrian-friendly city then I must say Atlanta is not for you.

Minimal public transportation

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority ( MARTA ) is not sufficient for reaching everywhere. The stations are not close to one another and that is why you need to wither walk or drive through the station and park your car before riding the train.

Traffic

Rush everywhere! There is plenty of traffics around the city each day. Rush starts from even 4 a.m and it lasts for the next 6 hours. Only 4-5 hours of relaxation then the evening rush starts at 3 p.m which sometimes runs up to 11 p.m

Hot summers

The summer of Atlanta, sometimes, is not bearable at all. In July and August, the temperature sometimes reaches the 90s or 100s.

To conclude, Atlanta attracts me for its diversified range of cultural celebration and art heritage. I am a foody and I love to taste the different courses around the world which is really available in the city of Atlanta.
