Things You May Not Know About Vasectomies

Vasectomies are a pretty common occurrence for many men and each year there are upwards of 500,000 men who will pop into their local urologist for these speedy treatments. To anyone who is not aware, a vasectomy is a very simple procedure which sterilizes men and blocks the sperm from being able to reach the semen in the testicle. There are a couple of reasons why a man may do this, the most common of which of course being that  they can have unprotected sex with their partner, safe in the knowledge that there will be no little bumps coming along any time soon, or ever in fact. Today then we bring you some facts which you perhaps didn’t know about vasectomies.

Effective, But Wait…

Vasectomies are extremely effective and there is only the very tiniest probability that a man who has had a vasectomy could get their partner pregnant. With this being said however, men must be careful in the weeks after the procedure because there is still a good chance that they have sperm in their semen. On average a man will have to ejaculate 20 times or wait 8 weeks before all of the sperm is removed from the semen. This is vital knowledge as there is a danger tat men think that they are sterile right away, you can only imagine how wrong that could go.

No Sex Life Issues

Many men are concerned that having that little snip is going to negatively affect their sex life but this is not the case at all and after a short break, men will have the same energy and performance levels as they always have done. It is understandable that men would be concerned abut this but there is nothing at all to worry about , as soon as recovery is complete, things will be back to normal.

Recovery

The human body really is amazing when it comes to recovery and within just 2 or 3 days anyone who has had this procedure will be as good as new. Physical activity can resume around 7 days later and that is it. Most men simply need to relax and enjoy some TV during this time… incidentally many men will wait until playoff season to have this done so that they can get their fill of sports action whilst they recover, smart.

Reversal

Whilst it is certainly true that this procedure can be revered if the patient’s situation changes, it is not quite as easy as it sounds. Many doctors suggest that this should be seen as a final solution because the reversal of the vasectomy is a far lengthier and more painful process. Whereas the original procedure may last 30 minutes and you will be on your way, the reversal can take up to 6 hours and is much more invasive, as the urologist seeks to reconnect the pathway so that the sperm can once again enter the semen.
