Here’s what you need to do.

   1. Get the Ingredients

The first thing to do before you attempt to make a Philly Cheesesteak is to eat a great quality one! This will give you an idea of what it tastes like so you can compare your results and improve each time you make one. You can try a great Philly Cheesesteak here.

For the cheese, you want to stick to the classic options. Go for American cheese, Provolone, or if you truly want to be authentic: Cheez Whiz!

For steak, use a sirloin or ribeye steak that is thinly-cut and well-marbled.

The other ingredients are:

  • 4 Hoagie Rolls
  • 8 slices of your preferred cheese (unless using Cheez Whiz)
  • 1 1/2 lbs of your sirloin or ribeye
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 red peppers
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1 yellow onion
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper

      2. Initial Preparation

First, make sure to thinly-slice your steak, the red and green peppers, and the yellow onion. You want to make sure they are as thin as possible and that there is an abundance of slices.

Set these slices aside. Next, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil on a skillet over medium heat. Once the oil begins to sizzle add the green and red peppers as well as the yellow onion. Season these with a pinch of salt and black pepper.

Continue to cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes until the peppers and onions are caramelized. Then, take them out and set them aside.

    3. Cooking the Steak

With the skillet continuing on medium heat, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Add your steak (sliced) and then cook it until it’s cooked to your liking.

You want to make sure that the steak is as tender as possible. On medium heat, this should take 5-10 minutes. Season the steak with salt and pepper.

    4. Final Steps

Finally, once your steak is ready, quickly add the green and red peppers and onions to the skillet and toss them with the meat.

Gather the veggies and meat in a circle in the middle of your skillet. Add all of your cheese to the top of this mixture and cover your skillet. Give it 3-5 minutes to melt over the mixture.

Once it’s done, turn off the skillet and put the mixture on the hoagie rolls.

After this, there is one final step: enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak!
