Types of Internal Door Handles: Which One is Right for You?

Internal door handles are commonly used for residential applications to secure door closure. They come in various styles, colors, and finishes to match any home décor provided by manovella Design. These types of doorknobs are categorized by the installation method they use. The two main methods include surface or mortise mounting, which refers to installing it into the door.

Surface mounting:

A surface mount door handle is a knob attached to the door’s face. These are easy for DIYers as they can be installed without drilling into or tearing apart your existing entries, but they do not provide a lot of security. In addition, they may require periodic adjustments since there is no set screw holding it in place.

Mortise Mounting:

A mortise mount door handle is a knob installed into a square or rectangular hole cut out of the door. This type of mounting provides more security than surface mounts and is less likely to loosen over time, but they can be more challenging to install and are not as common as surface mounts.

There are different types of internal door handles available, which include:

– Dummy Handles – These are doorknobs that do not turn or open any part of the door. Instead, they serve as decoration and can be used with or without locks to create different looks depending on your preference.

– Privacy Locks – this type of handle allows you to lock a single person in or out of a room by twisting the knob to engage the locking mechanism.

– Passage Locks – this type of handle is used for doors that do not require privacy and can be opened from either side without having to unlock it first.

– Keyed Entry Locks – as the name suggests, these are locks that can only be opened with a key.

– Keyless Locks – these can be unlocked and locked without using any physical key, so people don’t have to carry them around.

– Spring Latch Trim – this is typically used on interior doors that do not require locking or unlocking, such as closet doors, pantry doors, or bathroom doors.

– Electronic Locks – Electronic locks are similar to the keyless knob in that they can be locked and unlocked with a push of a button on the outside, but you will need a battery inside for it to work correctly. They come with a code pad to enter your security code before unlocking the door.

– Emergency Locks – these are used for fire exits or emergencies where people need to get out quickly without having to find a key or code pad. An emergency lock will automatically engage when it detects an excessive amount of force on the other side, allowing them to open from either side using hardware present inside. It is essential to consult with a locksmith to see if your door is compatible with an emergency lock before purchasing.

In conclusion, there are various types of door handles to choose from, and it is essential to consult with a locksmith to see which one would be the best fit for your needs.
