While the Champions League quarterfinal traditionally consists of two legs, the round has been reduced to one match after tournament play was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All remaining matches will take place in Lisbon, Portugal with the final set to take place on Aug. 23.

Lyon has not reached the quarterfinals since 2009-10, while Manchester City is appearing in the round for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

Manchester City saw back-to-back 2-1 victories over Real Madrid in legs 1 and 2 of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 to make their way into the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Lyon lost their Saturday match against Juventus 2-1 to have an aggregate draw of 2-2 in the round of 16. How Man City should line up vs Lyon
Pep Guardiola must decide whether to reinstate Benjamin Mendy for Manchester City’s Champions League quarter final with Lyon tonight.

Mendy was suspended for the last-16 second leg win over Real Madrid last week, with Joao Cancelo deputising at left-back having played there for the final two games of the Premier League season. Now, with Mendy back available, Guardiola must choose whether the Frenchman returns to his natural position, or he persists with Cancelo after a good showing in the last round.

Guardiola also started Phil Foden as a false nine against Madrid, before he moved out to the wing in the second half. Riyad Mahrez or Bernardo Silva may hope to come back in place of Foden as City have to win on the night rather than defend their 2-1 lead from the first leg against Real Madrid.

There are also selection dilemmas at centre-back and midfield after Fernandinho partnered Aymeric Laporte last time out, and Ilkay Gundogan was preferred to David Silva and Bernardo Silva in midfield alongside Kevin De Bruyne.
