Ways Instagram Has Impacted Us

With users spending an average of 53 minutes per day, in the recent few years, Instagram has only grown in popularity, encasing billion active users into its being. Given that, the impact of the photo-sharing app has been quite significant on all our lives.

Instagram has helped people start a business by setting up a store online, rather than setting up a brick-and-mortar store with a lot of cost. It has brought quite a few sub-genres into light and enlightened us all with a whole new set of career choices, and oh, while marketing conventional standards, it has influenced our behaviors to the point that sometimes doing anything out of the current societal “norm” set by social media, seems like an impossible thing.

People have been so desperate with growing their social media presence that they would even buy monthly Instagram likes and followers to have a shot at crafty Instagram. Sometimes Instagram really does blur the lines between reality and fiction, but it has had some good impacts on the world too.

In this post, we are going to put some of the impacts of the platform into words.

1. It’s changed beauty standards.

Instagram has been held responsible for affecting young individuals’ mental health, and fairly so.

It has established, or emphasized, conventional and unrealistic beauty standards that young women, especially, have felt obligated to abide by. However, there is also another side to the coin – many influencers have shared a more diverse perspective on beauty by not hiding, editing and filtering physical characteristics that make us human.

People are tired of relying on traditional media for a sparse definition of beauty, they are more self- aware and accepting, as they now post more unfiltered, unedited images and elude unrealistic expectations of beauty, which also shows brands on what kind of promotional tactics must be incorporated in order to relate with the audience.

2. We travel differently now.

We still travel through our means of transportation taught to us in grade school, but we no longer do that without taking a photo or fifty. Instagram has a lot of travel inspiration, and is filled with mesmerizing photos from around the world that makes us want to see the world.

Insta-tourism has apparently become a thing now, as 67% percent of travel enthusiasts get their inspiration from Instagram, as there are so many trends that have been reflected as Insta-popular locations.

4. There are new food trends now.

Avocado on toast is not in fashion anymore, talk about charcoal activated croissants, rainbow bagels or matcha latte. There are restaurants that focus a lot on the ambience now, and healthy eating has become something everyone looks forward to.

5. It’s created entire social brands

Brands have started religiously relying on Instagram to promote their products, and there have been many start-up success stories too.

Some of them have been able to create brands from scratch, such as Daniel Wellington – this particular brand has used the platform to promote their product by gifting watches to influencers and has resulted in a flood of sales.

6. It encourages activism.

Instagram has helped bring light upon worthy causes, as visual content can be incredibly powerful, and many use Instagram as a storytelling tool to relay the message to audiences everywhere.

It has encouraged diversity of all kinds of people, races, body types and sexualities. When Instagram wasn’t as popular, many of these issues and perspectives were shoved under the rug.

7. There are so many influencers now.

Bloggers were popular before 2022 as well, and we mean back in 2011 or 2012, but the popularity of Instagram gave them a platform to boost their presence even more, and now these bloggers turned influencers have been making an impact on a lot of us through their content.

As this post comes to an end, there is a wide range of ways Instagram has influenced our societal culture – it has changed the way we think, and the way we communicate, explore and have a perspective on different things.

From a business perspective, it paves an understanding of these particular progressions in the social media world as it gives brands an identity and sales boost of its own, as many can access different buying options from anywhere in the world.
