Many people around the world are in isolation for weeks, in some countries even months, the road to normality is still long and unpredictable. What to do during this time to avoid getting bored and spend your time having fun with your family? In this post, I will give you some ideas on activities to be carried out to entertain yourself and your kids while at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Undoubtedly, it’s a hard period for all of us, in which we have to completely rethink our time management, and in which we are forced within our house and backyard without being able to go to work. Many are trying smart working for the first time, for others who don’t have this possibility, isolation has simply become a shapeless mass of free time to fill.
If you don’t know how to entertain yourself and your family during the COVID-19 isolation, in this article we’ve put together some ideas on what to do at home during this time.
Hobbies during the quarantine
Playing, knitting, singing — without disturbing the neighborhood — writing poetry, coloring, drawing or painting, sewing, or any other hobby that we have put away and forgot about it, well it’s time to start again or start something new.
It helps us to stay active in a positive way and not to feel the weight of the lack of freedom of movement outside the house. Why don’t you visit an art exhibition? There are many digital museums that can be enjoyed in this period. And it can be a learning experience for your kids too!
Face painting and costumes
All children love dressing up! You can play face painting and, if you want, organize a carnival contest to choose the most beautiful costume. Try to draw your favorite animal on your face or have your child do it – fun is guaranteed! Help him to paint his face in turn after choosing the animal he prefers. It is very important to use colors specifically created for face and body painting!
Assemble a jigsaw puzzle
This is an activity doesn’t require a lot of space and it will get the whole family involved for hours of entrainment! There are so many puzzles you can buy online, the more the pieces the more the time you’ll spend working on it with your kids, and it’s a great idea for rainy days too. You can buy puzzle representing your children favorite cartoon or perhaps one representing an inspiring landscape or one of your favorite travel destinations. You will only need a surface to work on it, like a rigid mat or wooden board, you can just leave the puzzle there and go back to it from time to time — and once you’re done, frame it and hang it on a wall!
Organize a treasure hunt
Find some small objects to hide around the house or in your garden. Start by scouting the locations before going ahead and hide things, and note where you’ve put them — you don’t want to end up forgetting where they are. Then you can start writing down the clues, even better if they’re in rhyme, and leave them around too in numbered envelopes. Makes sure you give yourself plenty of time to play, and get the help of someone to organize it, have a plan B ready for any contingencies and prepare a reward for the winner.
Invent your own board game
Do you love board games but have you already used and reused the ones you have at home? Then time has come to create a new one. Discuss what kind of game you want to play with your family, and plan it together. Define the rules to follow and the game pieces you will need. Once you’ve got everything ready, play. Creating a board game and its rules from scratch is already a fantastic moment of interaction for the family, putting the result into practice will be fun and satisfying.
Create a mini fitness course
One of the most difficult problems to overcome during this isolation time spent at home with children is to put a brake on their mobility. A good idea to get them moving (and make them get a little tired) is to create a mini fitness course to have fun and do some physical activity. You can use what you have at home, such as chairs, tables, bottles and some measuring tape for example, you can create a path where you can jump, do the slalom, walk in balance, go under it as if it were a tunnel. The finish line? Put a tape and ribbon at the end of the course, as if the child were at the Olympics.
Install a backyard trampoline
Trampolines are a very fun element to place in your backyard or garden. There are many kinds of trampolines on the market, so how can you choose the best one? The choice of the best trampolines requires to carefully analyze the structure, the load and the materials which the elastic trampoline for the garden is made of, and to consider what its purpose will be, if it’s intended for children or to adult fitness.
