Wedding Outfit Guide for the Parents of the Bride and Groom

The bride and groom aren’t the only two who look forward to their wedding day. This is a momentous occasion for their parents. They are watching their children begin a new life together. The parents play an important role in this day and wish to look their best when doing so. What should the parents of the bride and groom wear to look their best without outshining their children?

Mother of the Bride or Groom

The mother of the bride needs to work with her daughter to find the perfect dress. People will throw out several rules regarding the mother of the bride attire. However, the bride has a vision in her head of what the day should look like, and that vision may play a role in what she wants her mom to wear. Fulfilling this vision should be the goal of her mom.

Women who want a vintage look that is contemporary should choose a dress with lace details. A mother who wants a more elegant look may select a knee-length dress, while a woman who prefers a sophisticated might wear a dress in a neutral shade. Finish off the lock with a matching handbag and shoes. Once the mother of the bride chooses her attire, the focus turns to dressing the groom’s mother

The mother of the groom should wait until the mother of the bride picks a dress before choosing her own. Doing so ensures both moms won’t wear the same dress or very similar ones. When selecting a dress, the mother of the groom should not pick the same color as the mother of the bride or the bridesmaids will be wearing. She needs a complementary color and style.

For example, if the mother of the bride chooses a dress in a light shade, the mother of the groom may pick a dress of the same color but in a darker shade. Again, when choosing this dress, ensure it won’t outshine the bride. Add some elegant jewelry, a matching handbag, and comfortable shoes, and enjoy the day.

Father of the Bride or Groom

Fathers have options when it comes to what they should wear to a child’s wedding. The key to finding the right outfit is to consider what the groomsmen are wearing and wear something that is similar. If the groomsmen are dressed in casual attire, the father or the bride or groom can go casual. When the men in the wedding party plan to wear black tie attire, the fathers should show up in tuxes.

However, no person at the wedding should overshadow the bride or groom, including their fathers. Avoid wearing the same colors as the groom and keep the accessories to a minimum. This is not the time for a man, other than the groom, to highlight their sense of style.

Many people today choose to have less conventional weddings. Keep the theme of the wedding in mind when choosing an outfit in these situations. Linen pants and a nice button-down may be perfect for an outdoor summer wedding, for example.

The bride and groom can help guide the parents through choosing their wedding attire. However, they should not stress over what their moms and dads are wearing. They are marrying the love of their life, and everyone’s focus will be on the joy seen on their faces. Relax and enjoy the day. Anyone’s clothing choice is of no importance when the happy couple keeps that in mind.
