What Is Content Writing And How To Do It Right?

Many have dreamed before you to be able to work from the comfort of their home, with a warm tea (In my case preferably, coffee) on their desk, opened laptop, schedule that is as flexible as you wish for it to be, and a mind full of creative ideas.

Actually, there is a way to make this your reality- and the answer is rather simple- Content writing.

Confused?

No worries, I’ll explain.

Content Writing What?

You might ask, but what does exactly content writing mean?

To put it into simple terms, content writing is a series of different processes including planning,  writing, and creating content for marketing purposes. The main goal of doing that is to build an audience and make them more engaged with your content and therefore with the brand you’re promoting.

Basically, you are creating a fundament for future success. The content that you write will be the way of communicating with the audience and thus- with potential customers.

Now you can imagine how impactful and on-point content writing should be. But exactly where do you apply your writing skills and work-mastery when you are interested in content writing?

Well, there are several types of online content and we will touch them in a second.

Types of Content Marketing

There are 7 types of online content

  1. Web content
  2. Blogging
  3. Social media
  4. Creative writing
  5. Ad and sales copy
  6. Expert writing
  7. News writing

In each case, several things should be considered: content should grab and then keep customers’ attention; Should be rich, snappy, spicy, and most importantly- NOT-BORING; Putting something new and interesting on the table that is already full of billions of information is a very important and highly valuable skill, no matter which type of content marketing/content writing you choose as a career.

There are plenty of agencies/ freelancers who work on the different types of content writing, in case you are searching for a professional who could provide you with a content writing service. But If you are just interested in testing it out yourself, below are some tips to consider.

What are the most important factors that should be considered in content writing?

Being precise, focused, and clear with your content!

To satisfy all those things listed above, trying to imagine yourself as a customer is a way to go. Let’s create a scene: You are searching for a solution and of course, google is your first option. You don’t have much time or maybe finances, so you need information asap. Imagine, how would you have asked a question? And what type of answer would have been preferable for you? For me, simple, on point, and clear!.

Visual Stimulus in the content!

Putting visual representations of your point/idea has proved to be a successful strategy for attracting people. It’s built into our ancient neurological pathways to be triggered by images, visual stimuli, etc. Therefore using images, illustrations, will help you to increase the rate of engagement with the audience. But before picking images, think how beneficial they will be for the reader?

Editing!

To put it simply, poorly edited text is a ‘bad tone’ in customers’ eyes and that will affect the brand’s reputation. It sends a message, that there was not enough work and consideration put into the content that should have attracted the audience. So why would the customer be interested in a brand that does such a half-hearted job?

Tone of voice

Basically, the meaning of tone of voice is what style of communication do you use with the audience. That depends on the type of brand you are promoting and what purpose it has. Usually, using humor can help to build a rapport between the customer and the brand- it creates a light and engaging environment and a feeling that both of you are speaking the same language.

Here is the example of using a specific tone of voice to engage with the targeted audience

Did your content solve the customer’s problem?

And that is the most important question to ask. The sole purpose of a customer’s visit to your website/blog/etc was to get specific enough answers. If this is not the case, frustration takes place thus chances that the customer will visit and use your resources again are pretty slim.

It’s also beneficial to include step-by-step guides in your content, if necessary, of course. Take your customer with you throughout the whole process.  Because at the end of the day the question is, what practical use was your content for a customer if the problem is yet unsolved?

Last but not least, it’s good to remember that we are operating in the digital social world where being trustworthy and helpful is the way to long term success- therefore linking other informational or related websites in your content, that will strengthen the main point of your article/blogspot/etc and satisfies customers full curiosity, will be seen as a ‘friendly’ move from the Google and help your content to get high-ranked status!
