What to Do After a Construction Accident

Each day, at least two construction workers meet their untimely end on the job site. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but the numbers add up fast. It’s for that reason that being a construction worker is one of the most dangerous jobs you can take.

You come face to face with huge pieces of moving machinery, falling objects, cluttered environments, and more.

One of the best ways to cut down on injuries is to report a construction accident when it happens. This way, the company can learn from its mistakes and work to create a safer environment.

Reporting is only one step of the process. Check out this guide for a complete list of things to do after you’ve been hurt on the job.

Get Medical Attention

As soon as you experience an injury on a construction site, dial 911. If you don’t feel like the problem calls for an ER visit, go to your regular family doctor, at least.

The reason is that many injuries don’t show themselves as soon as they happen. You may not experience pain symptoms for a week or even a month after the incident. By that time, it might be too late for a court settlement.

Let Your Supervisor Know About the Incident

Once the doctor has determined that your injuries came from work, go report the incident to your supervisor. Grab a piece of paper and write down everything that happened leading up to the accident. Don’t spare a single detail.

The sooner you do this, the better. The longer you wait, the less likely you’ll get compensation for your injuries.

Gather Evidence

To make your claim even stronger, you need to collect evidence that you can use in court. Talk to any workers who may have witnessed your accident.

Grab your phone and take pictures of all the equipment that was involved in the incident. If you tripped over debris on the floor, get photos of the clutter. As with writing your report, don’t omit a single detail.

Get on the Phone with an Attorney

The last step is to call a Construction Accident Attorney. They’ll take a look at all the evidence you gathered and tell you how you should proceed. You might be able to sue the party responsible for your injuries or file for workers’ compensation.

Once they’ve figured out what you should do, they’ll sit down with you and help you fill out the paperwork. As you can see, a good personal injury attorney will walk you through every step of the process.

Seeking Compensation After a Construction Accident

Having a construction accident is more common than not. There are so many things that can go wrong on the job site that it’s one of the most dangerous careers you can take

The good news is that as long as you seek out medical attention, report the incident, and see the right lawyer, you should be able to get the compensation you need to pay for your treatment.
