Why is my Traeger not Smocking?

A Traeger grill is a combination of barbecue and smoker that uses wood pellets to create heat and smoke. The Traeger is designed to adjust heat automatically. You operate the grill by setting the temperature you want. The auger dispenses pellets at the precise speed and quantity necessary to maintain the desired temperature.

Why is my Traeger, not smoking?

I see a lot of Traeger, Some of them have a smoking system, and some of them have not smoked settings. So, you have to gain some knowledge, is your Traeger has the smoking ability or not. If your Traeger has the smoke feature, inevitably, it will produce smoke. And if it does not support a smocking function, then it will not provide smock. But sometime smock enables Traeger to stop smoking. For these reasons your Traeger can stop its smocking:

  • Junk on smoking section
  • When it’s not getting proper heat
  • When you turn off its smoking settings
  • When it’s not got sufficiently hot.

These things can be the reason for your Traeger, not smoking.

A Traeger grill can be used for both smoking and cooking.

Use smoke settings

With most Traeger grill models, it is possible to set the grill to smoke. In this setting, the auger will only dispense pellets to create smoke without increasing the grill temperature to more than 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This will allow you to get more smoke flavor in your food. After a while in the smoke setting, you can raise the temperature to cook the food to the desired point.

Too much smoke

Occasionally, the Traeger may produce too much smoke. This can happen when you set the grill to “smoke” after using it in a cooking set. If the grill is not allowed to cool before lighting to smoke, the leftover granules in the pot can cause air to be expelled through the auger instead of the burn pot, and create a large amount of smoke black. To solve this problem, turn off the grill and allow it to cool for about half an hour before turning it on again.

Time to smoke

To get a smoker taste in food, you will have to leave the Traeger set for smoking for a more extended period of time. The amount of time you want your food to smoke depends on what you are cooking. For example, a salmon steak may only need a few minutes to smoke, but a large skirt may need a few hours. Many Traeger grill models do not produce much smoke once they are set at higher temperatures.

Generate more smoke

If your Traeger does not produce enough smoke for your barbecue taste, you can add a cold smoke generator to your grill. To connect a smoke generator, you must drill a hole in the side of your Traeger and insert the cold smoker tube. Then start the cold smoker, turn on your Traeger at the desired temperature, place the food, and close the lid. The cold smoker will produce additional smoke but not heat, while the Traeger will produce precise heat.
