Why You Should Consider Buying a Used Motorcycle

Many people refuse to buy a new vehicle today. They purchase a pre-owned car or motorcycle, doing so for a variety of reasons. The primary reason people choose this option involves cosst. Used vehicles of any type cost less than new ones, even when they are the same model year. A vehicle depreciates the minute the original owner drives it off the dealer’s lot. Why should you consider buying a used motorcycle?

Lower Prices

Price remains the main reason countless individuals choose to buy a used motorcycle from cleanharleys.com. They know they are getting an amazing ride for a good price. While other sellers may offer similar bikes for a lower price, consumers know this dealer offers the best value for the money.

Better Variety

When purchasing new, buyers find they only have access to this year’s model and possibly a few remaining bikes from the prior model year. If they choose to purchase used, they have a much larger selection to choose from. This often means they can get more features while remaining within their budget.

Similar Features

A person might assume they won’t get the latest features if they choose to buy used. That isn’t necessarily the case. A buyer might find last year’s model comes with the same features seen in this year’s bikes and at a much lower price. Some riders upgrade every year, and used bike buyers benefit from their desire to upgrade regularly. However, a buyer must take care when purchasing used.

What to Avoid

Avoid a bike with a salvage title. Buyers might believe they are getting an outstanding deal. However, once they complete the necessary repairs, the buyer often finds they spent more than they would if they purchased new. People rarely get an excellent buy when they purchase any vehicle with a salvage title.

In addition, never buy a stunt bike or one with a bent frame. Stunts often harm the suspension, engine, and transmission. The only exception to this is riders who also plan to do stunts with the bike. There’s no harm in buying one already used for this purpose if that is what a rider wants the bike for. Bent frames aren’t safe to ride, so always avoid bikes with this issue.

What to Look For

Always choose a bike with a clean title. Although it is legal to sell a bike with nothing more than a bill of sale, the buyer could encounter problems when titling the motorcycle. Furthermore, choose a bike with low mileage. Many people assume they can buy a bike with high miles like they would a car, but experts recommend only buying motorcycles with 20,000 miles or fewer.

When buying from a private seller, always meet in a public place. In most cases, buying from a reputable dealer remains the best choice, as a variety of risks are avoided. This gives you the confidence to ride the bike off of the lot. However, spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with the bike before going out on the road. This reduces the risk of an accident because you aren’t familiar with the motorcycle.

When purchasing a used bike, two bills of sale need to be completed. One is for the seller, and the other is yours to keep. Ensure the seller signs in the appropriate places. This prevents delays when you go to title the bike in your own name. Once this has been done, you are ready to take off. Enjoy your new ride.
