CBD can be a very extensive topic as there is a plethora of information out there on the internet that highlights its potential healing benefits, how much to use, and why there’s so much hype about it. If CBD is new to you or you just want to know more about it, we’re here to answer your questions.
Is CBD Legal?
In short, yes. More specifically, check to see if your state has any particular laws surrounding CBD before you purchase it.
The Farm Bill passed in 2014, which allowed state governments to not only research but also grow industrial hemp under state-regulated pilot programs legally. Up until recently, CBD had been negatively associated with marijuana. After the passing of the Farm Bill, it specified that hemp and hemp-derived products with less than 0.3% THC would be classified apart from marijuana cannabis.
In 2018, the Farm Bill was revised which federally legalized the growth, production, consumption, and sale of hemp-based products across the United States. This meant that hemp products with 0.3% or less THC would be federally legal. However, this did not legalize CBD products that are marijuana-derived.
It’s important to note that while hemp-derived CBD products that contain less than 0.3% THC are legal at the federal level, certain states may have different laws that do not allow the sale or purchase of CBD products. It’s important to research state laws before trying to purchase CBD.
What Can CBD Be Used For?
While there are many known uses of CBD, researchers are still finding new ways to incorporate CBD into daily routines. Current research suggests that CBD has many healing benefits, that can be used as a remedy to many different illnesses.
Some researchers believe that it can help with:
Anxiety – Researchers believe that CBD may change the way that the brain’s receptors respond to serotonin, a chemical known to be linked to mental health. They suggest that CBD may have the potential to reduce stress, decrease physiological effects of anxiety, improve the effects of PTSD, and help induce sleep in cases of insomnia.
Seizures – Research and tests suggest that CBD may be a possible treatment for epilepsy. It is unknown whether CBD can be a cure for epileptic seizures, although researchers are still exploring the different benefits and treatments. However, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the first-ever cannabis-derived medicine for childhood epilepsy syndromes called Epidiolex.
Neuroprotective – Studies are being done to understand how receptors are located in the brain to learn how CBD can aid with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s Disease, and strokes.
Pain Relief – Research is being done to see if CBD is an effective ingredient to help manage pain with a variety of ailments such as MS pain, muscle pain, and even Arthritis.
Anti-Acne – Some believe that CBD can improve the immune system, which, subsequently, may help to improve the effects of overall inflammation in your body. Additionally, researchers believe that CBD may be an effective component to help address and prevent acne, along with other common skin concerns such as Psoriasis and Eczema.
As mentioned, researchers are still trying to understand all of the benefits of CBD, though they are still in the early stages of knowing the full potential of its benefits.
Will I Experience a “High”?
The answer is simple, no. Of the 80 biologically active compounds, THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol) are the two most common and most studied compounds in the cannabis plant. A common misconception is that CBD will get you “high.” Although they are closely related, there are differences between the two.
THC and CBD are very different, though they are often mistaken for one another. The two compounds act on different receptors in the brain and your body. THC is commonly known for its ability to cause a “high” feeling, while CBD is nonpsychoactive and will not give you the feeling of being “high” if used.
For years, CBD has been studied because of its healing nature and therapeutic properties. As research continues, it’s no secret that people are becoming more and more interested in all that CBD can offer. The health and science communities have continued to explore the different ways to use CBD and have begun to encourage consumers to look to CBD as a safe and natural medicinal alternative.
With an increase in rules, regulations, and standards in the United States, CBD has started to attract interest as its reputation grows with approval and popularity. Many have decided to implement CBD in their daily wellness routines.
