4 Tips to Simplify Your Shaving Routine

Shaving is part of any regular male grooming routine these days. However, with so many shaving products and blades available on the market these days, it can seem like an overwhelming and difficult routine to maintain.

Here are some quick tips to help you simplify your shaving routine and not think of it as such an intimidating or daunting task you are forced to adhere to.

  1. Choose the right aftershave

A lot of men dread shaving due to the burning sensation they experience after they’re done from harsh aftershave products. It’s an absolute no no to just whack on some alcoholic concoction that leaves your skin feeling irritated and sore. Your skin requires some good old TLC after a shave to restore the pH and moisture levels with the right aftershave. Choose an aftershave that calms irritated and inflames skin post-shave by applying a moisturising and soothing lotion.

  1. Choose the right blade

The blade you use when shaving makes a massive difference to your experience. Your best options for regular at-home shaving are usually safety and straight razors. Razors are very much dependant on individual skin types and shaving needs, for example, a 3-blade razor can provide a smooth and comfortable shave for one person but may be uncomfortable for another. The factors to consider when choosing a blade are; the weight of the razor and how it feels to carry, replacement of blades and how simple this is, and finally how easy it is to clean between shaves.

  1. Choose the right shaving oil, cream or soap

A crucial step in the shaving process is the application of a natural pre-shave oil. The oil acts as a lubricant for your shave and a protective barrier to restore the natural oils your face sheds during a shave. Shaving cream or soap softens your hair to make a one glide shave possible. It’s best to look for a cream or soap that contains natural ingredients. The main function of this product is to produce a layer of lather and lubricant between sensitive skin and the razor for seamless gliding action.

  1. Choose the right time to shave

Shaving should be an enjoyable process that isn’t rushed or shoved into a hasty morning routine. You should know how to shave properly and choose a time when you can shave without rush. If you find yourself constantly racing against the clock in the morning then consider shaving the night before instead. An evening shave reduces the risk of unwanted cuts and irritation caused by a rushed morning shave. You tend to be much more relaxed at night and you can get your facial hair suitably prepped for a shave. The best thing is that you still leave any touch-ups you may have missed to go over quickly in the morning. Our bodies also heal while we sleep, that’s why it is a great idea to shave at night and allow newly shaved skin the opportunity to “heal itself” before the morning grind. Whichever time you choose to shave, don’t rush the process and take the efficient time to prepare your skin for the razor.
