4 Tips To Support a Healthy-Looking Complexion Naturally

If you are among the millions of people longing for healthy-looking skin, you’ve probably tried several different strategies. Unfortunately, many “miracle fixes” lead to poor results and frustration. Before giving up hope, try using these five tips to support healthier-looking skin naturally.

  • Limit Sun Exposure

The sun is enemy number one when it comes to healthy skin. Sun exposure is linked to premature aging. This process, known as photoaging, leads to discoloration, wrinkles, and reduced elasticity.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the sun’s ultraviolet radiation can alter the cellular structure of your skin. That’s why avoiding the sun, especially in the middle of the day when its rays are strongest, is one of the best things you can do to maintain healthy skin.

There is one caveat to avoiding the sun altogether. Your body produces vitamin D when exposed to the sun. This nutrient is crucial to developing healthy bones. However, Medical News Today reports that it can take as little as 15 minutes a day to produce enough vitamin D for healthy bodily function.

  • Load Up on Antioxidants

Many people tout the heart-health-supporting benefits of taking a COQ10 supplement A healthy heart could help support all your organs, including skin. Low levels of this powerful antioxidant have been noted in patients, so it’s a good idea to ensure you are getting enough of it.

Research suggests that antioxidants are one of the best defenses against cellular changes. Antioxidants are readily available in a healthy and balanced diet. However, if you struggle to eat the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables, you might consider adding a supplement to your diet.

  • Stay Hydrated

There is a lot to supporting healthy skin beyond cosmetics. One example is maintaining proper hydration levels. Your body contained more water than anything else. It is used in every biological process, including the production of the skin, oils, and sweat — all of which can impact your skin’s appearance.

Most adults need between 11 and 16 cups of fluid daily to maintain adequate hydration levels and proper biological function. Factors like sex, activity level, age, and environmental conditions can impact that amount. Additionally, a lot of fluid comes from foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.

One good way to check your hydration levels is to look at your urine; it should be a clear pale yellow. If you notice it is dark yellow, golden, or brown, there’s a good chance you aren’t drinking enough water during the day.

  • Avoid Harsh Treatments

Even though they are designed to produce healthier, younger-looking skin, many harsh cosmetic treatments can cause more harm than good. For example, home chemical peels can lead to irritation, redness, and dry skin. One exploration of the benefits of facials or similar spa treatments revealed that they usually provide little to no benefit beyond stress relief and improved relaxation. The dermatologists in that assessment largely agreed that a daily routine should include a gentle cleanser, sunscreen, and retinoids once treatment is warranted.

Healthy skin can be yours. Start by understanding what supports skin’s overall health. Then, use that information to develop a routine that works for your skin type and age.
