Reasons Not to Go to Bed with Wet Hair

According to the dermatologists at the Family Care Hospital, your hair care and personal lifestyle habits play a major role in determining your hair health. In order to help you understand, I am going to share with you the reasons why you shouldn’t be sleeping with wet hair.

If you are interested in knowing, then Read On:

     1. Wet Hair Cause Extreme Hair Breakage

Wet hair is prone to breakage. So, if you wake up with a pile of broken hair strands on your pillow, don’t be surprised. Wet hair increases the friction of your hair. Hence making them snap easily as compared to dry hair.

When you sleep with wet hair. The outer layer of your scalp i.e. cuticle remains open. This makes your hair “extremely brittle” and “stretchier”.

     2. Increase Bacterial and Fungal Infection

Your pillows can be a potential playing ground for the microbes such as bacteria and fungi. So, when you sleep with wet hair, the warm and damp environment plays an important role in bacterial growth. This scenario also leads to fungal infection such as “Malassezia” fungus” it can cause fungal infection, responsible for your dandruff. The damp hair can also lead to “Scalp Ringworm” which is a notorious fungal infection.

In fact, your hair’s natural oil gets absorbed on your pillow. Natural oil along with the excess moisture will only make your scalp prone to dandruff, which you won’t want. Right?!

     3. Dull Hair

When the water and natural oil move from your scalp to the pillow, your hair will be dehydrated. This will make your hair dull and lifeless.

You need to understand that there is a big difference between dehydrated and dry hair. Dry hair has natural oil while dehydrated is no essential hair.

     4. Hair Loss

Wet hair causes hair loss. Yes, you have read it right, wet hair can cause hair loss. Believe it or not, whether you comb your wet hair or sleep with wet hair, you lose more hair. You can even develop a scalp ringworm. It is a typical skin fungal infection in damp and warm conditions.

This infection is even contagious, so you need to be very careful. You need to grow them, instead of losing them.

     5. Acne

Acne is the worst nightmare that no one wants to have. Your pillow already has various microbes and if you are sleeping with wet hair then the chances of having acne increases.
