8 Effective Ways to Relieve Lumbar Back Pain

Over 60% of the world’s population experiences back pain at some point in their life. It’s one of the biggest reasons why adults are unable to engage in the activities they love.

Lumbar back pain is often the worst, even making it difficult to keep up with work and other responsibilities.

If you’re suffering from lower lumbar pain, keep reading. We’ll go through some of the best ways to help manage and relieve that pain so you can get your normal routine!

     1. Always Check Your Posture

When you ponder about what causes lumbar pain, poor posture should be at the top of every list. The way you sit and stand has a huge impact on the stress placed upon the lumbar area of your back.

This is why it’s important to always be mindful of your posture no matter what you’re doing. Get into the idea of doing a mental check on your posture every hour or so. If you notice that you’re leaning forward too much in your chair, straighten your spine again.

Set a timer if you have to so that you never forget to ensure proper posture while you work.

It’s tricky to break the habit of slouching. By keeping focused on fixing your posture, it’ll soon become your natural way of sitting.

     2. Use Support Cushions

One of the quickest and easiest ways of easing lumbar pain is to use back support cushions. These cushions guide your body into the correct posture without you needing to think about it. Support cushions are the perfect tool for when you’re trying to retrain your natural posture.

If you suffer from chronic back pain, it’s recommended that you put support cushions on every chair that you use. Even five minutes of sitting in a poor posture are enough to cause a problem.

A gel-infused back cushion is a great choice because it’s supportive without feeling awkward or too bulky.

     3. Stretch Beforehand

Stretches are a great way to manage lumbar pain since they keep those muscles limber and capable of handling the stress of long-term positions. A few simple stretches are all it takes to make a huge difference in your back pain.

Whenever you know that you’ll be sitting or standing for an extended time, do a few stretches. It’s also a great idea to do stretches after you’re done, to ensure that your muscles never get too tight.

Don’t forget to take a break from the activity and walk around when possible!

     4. Get a Massage

For quick relief, you can never go wrong with a good massage. The massage works deep into your muscles, loosening them so that they release the built-up pain that plagues you every day.

They’ll pinpoint other potential problem areas in your body that are contributing to your back pain. It’s a relaxing indulgence that does wonders for pains of all kinds.

It’s best to go to a professional for a massage since they know all the correct ways to maneuver the muscles. An inexperienced massage can do more damage to your aching muscles!

     5. Ice the Area

As you go through the day and overwork your back muscles, they may get swollen or inflamed. Applying ice to your lower back will bring that swelling down and allow your muscles to relax.

After a hard day’s work, stretch and then apply ice to your back for around 20 minutes. Take a break and then apply the idea for another 20 minutes if necessary. Make sure to place a towel over the ice pack so that you’re not damaging your skin in the process!

     6. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Eating well and exercising regularly are the best preventative measures you can take against chronic back pain. When your lifestyle is healthy, you’ll feel much better in all aspects of your life.

By living a healthy lifestyle, you’re giving your body all the tools it needs to stay happy and pain-free.

Plus, a lower BMI means that you’re not putting excess pressure on your back as it supports you throughout the day. Regular exercise keeps all of your muscles strong and prepared for any sudden shift in position.

With these two aspects working together, you’ll no longer deal with back pain as often as before. If you notice that you’ve been slacking on your exercise and diet habits, try to incorporate a few changes to get you back on track!

     7. Invest in a High-Quality Mattress

Sometimes our mattress is the main culprit behind lumbar back pain. If your mattress is old, lumpy, or not comfortable, it’s time to find a better replacement.

By investing in a high-quality mattress, you’ll alleviate a lot of the stress put on your back while you sleep. This gives both you and your back much needed rest before you get up to tackle the day ahead of you.

Another thing to keep in mind is your sleeping position. Don’t lay in a position that twists your back since this will put you at risk for more back pain in the morning.

     8. Strengthen Your Core

Keeping active is one of the best ways to achieve lumbar pain relief, but you want to make certain to focus on your core. The muscles in the core of your body are what support the lumbar area. If those muscles are unable to give proper support, your chances for back pain are greater.

When creating your exercise regimen, set aside specific days to work on your core muscles. Not only will you start feeling relief from your constant back pains, but you’ll get a lot of other health benefits as well!

No Longer Allow Lumbar Back Pain to Hinder Your Life

No one should go through life dealing with lumbar back pain every day. At the first sign of any pain, make sure to go through this list to help alleviate the problem before it gets worse.

These tips are best used for light to moderate pains. If you ever feel severe pain or nausea alongside your pain, make an appointment with a doctor right away.
