Caroline Sturken – Easiest Musical Instruments to Learn To Play

As the great musician Caroline Sturken often says, there is no ‘easy’ musical instrument to learn, yet there are some which are easier than others to pick up and start playing. When we talk about easy instruments we are not only discussing the actual difficulty of playing the instrument, there is much more to consider of course. Cost of the instrument, logistics of having the instrument in your home, and to a certain point the amount of noise the instrument makes, these are all crucial factors in understanding how easy an instrument is to pick up and play.

Le’s take a look then at which are the easiest musical instruments that you can be looking at playing.

Acoustic Guitar

There is a reason why so many people love to play guitar and that is because it is an was instrument to pick up, let’s look into why. Firstly there is the fact that this instrument can be found in so many places and it comes in a wide range of budgets to suit just about everyone. Secondly this is an instrument which carries such a weight of sound that you can actually play a song, and not just play a tune or a series of notes. There is also a wealth of information online as to how to play this instrument and it is not necessarily a very loud piece of kit to play.

Keyboard

there is something truly inspiring about the idea of sitting behind a piano and tinkling the ivories, yet the idea of having a baby grand piano in the home just isn’t practical. The next best thing is to have a keyboard in the home. These, much like the acoustic guitar, can be found in a range of prices to suit everyone. The keyboard is great because with the tech that we have these days they can sound just like a large piano. There are also many effects which you can play around with and whilst this is a very tough instrument to master, it isn’t difficult to pick up a tune or two which people will know. This isn’t necessarily a loud instrument and if you are frustrating people then you can always plug in your headphones and play in that way.

Flute

When looking to learn woodwind instruments there are some great options for the best entry level instrument and the best is the flute, or the recorder. This is a perfect introduction to how to go about playing woodwind. A recorder is very easy and cheap to buy, you can play many great little tunes on them and they are highly portable too. If you have dreams of one day playing the French horn or an instrument such as that, this is the perfect place for you to start.

If you want to learn an instrument that you love then go for it, if you are just looking to pick up an instrument to get your musical kicks, these are the easiest to get started with.
