Law

Dino Tomassetti Jr. – Planning Laws Are Pesky, But We Do Need Them

When it comes to planning a new build or an extension on your existing property, the first place to start is with planning permission. There are many reasons why we have planning permission in place, and it is basically your application, alongside your property design, which has to fit in with a certain number of laws and criteria. Being rejected for your build based on planning permission is incredibly frustrating and you may find that you have to keep changing the design and resubmitting it, until you can find the right one which will give you the permission that you require.

As the industry expert Dino Tomassetti Jr has often stated, planning permission is very troublesome, but it is also very necessary, and here is exactly what he means.

Civil Liberties

Much of the planning regulations which exist, are there to protect those who live around you. Your neighbors have civil liberties which must be respected and this is often why planning permission applications are rejected. If for example you plan to build an extension which is then going to block the view which someone has out of their window, then you are infringing on their civil liberty. If your building will overlook their garden for example, then you will be infringing on their privacy. This is the core reason why we have planning laws.

Maintaining the Character

There are many cities and towns which have a certain character to them, and this of course becomes a real charm. It is very much within the best interests of these towns and cities to maintain that character and the natural charm which they have. As a result they will block any plans which come in, that go against the character of the place.

Preserving Nature

Another common reason why we see planning permission refused is because a design for a new building or addition to an existing property is going to harm the natural eco-system which surrounds it. If there is a particular wildlife colony or protected area of natural beauty then there is no way that you are going to get the permission which you need. Again this can be frustrating but if these regulations didn’t exist then people would be free to build where they liked, and that would completely ruin large parts of the natural world.

Safety

And finally there is a lot built into planning laws which regard the safety of the people who are building the property, those surrounding the property and then those who will be living inside the property. For example it could be that your plan uses some hazardous materials and as a result you may find that some local governments will block it . This is again why you should always ensure that you have gone through the laws with a fine tooth comb before you submit those plans.

They may be frustrating, but they do exist for a very good reason indeed.
