Effective Ways Of Removing Calculus From The Teeth

Dental plaque is a biofilm of microbes that grows on surfaces within your mouth. While there is no way to eradicate plaque, it is important to brush one’s teeth twice a day and use mouthwash whenever required to slow down the build-up of plaque. Dental plaque can lead to calculus too. Calculus is a yellow-colored or brown deposit around the teeth that forms when plaque hardens on the teeth. It is also known as tartar.

Why Is Tartar Dangerous

Tartar is caused by the precipitation of gingival crevicular fluid and minerals from saliva on the teeth. It is dangerous for your oral health because it can lead to bad breath and excessive bacteria. The excessive deposits of bacteria lead to acid release that causes tooth decay. Tartar can also lead to tooth decay and cavities. You should take proper care of your gums and teeth; else, it might lead to bleeding or diseases like gingivitis.

What Are Some Effective Ways Of Removing Calculus From Teeth

There are several ways to remove tartar. Here are some of the most effective ways to remove calculus from your teeth:

  • Brush Your Teeth Regularly

The most effective and quickest way to get rid of calculus is to brush your teeth twice daily. Once in the morning, before you start your day, and then at night, before going to bed. You should use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush at all angles over the surface of your teeth. Always hold your brush at a 45-degree angle to your gum line.

  • Use Dental Floss

Dental floss is a quick and effective way to eliminate tiny deposits that damage the teeth and gums. A string of floss is a small thread that you can run between the teeth. It picks up the deposits that the strong bristles on a toothbrush cannot reach. There are also special mouthwashes that help control tartar build-up by removing magnesium and calcium from saliva. You should, however, consult your dentist before using these products.

  • Use Calculus Removing Toothpaste

Tartar can be prevented by replacing your regular toothpaste with the one that contains charcoal. Charcoal is very effective for teeth whitening. It has magnetic properties that don’t allow the tartar to stay on the teeth for a longer time.

  • Visit The Dentist

You should visit an experienced dentist to get rid of tartar build-up and find out about the best approach for your dental hygiene. You never know which technique is best because all people react differently to certain substances or food. If you have developed chronic plaque that doesn’t go away easily, a dental professional will help you in dealing with your dental issue. You can book a consultation with My Dental Home, Dr Kevin Brown & Associates, and find out about teeth cleaning programs and techniques that work best for you. A personalized approach is the best because dental care requires dedication and commitment. Alternatively, you can also consult Crownridge dental and Orthodontics in San Antonio on effective dental cleaning procedures.

  • Use Baking Soda, If Required

If the tartar deposits are excessive, you can brush your teeth with salt and baking soda. Baking soda is a neutralizer that absorbs the excess acids and gives you brighter teeth. It may have a slightly bitter taste and an odd texture at first, but it dries out easily. After applying, keep the solution on your teeth and gums for fifteen minutes, and then rinse thoroughly.

  • Watch Your Diet

Foods that are high in fatty acids, like fast food, oil, vinegar, or other salty and sour foods, can lead to calculus because they expose your teeth to different levels of pH, which can cause sensitivity towards hot and cold foods like soups and ice creams. Maintaining a balanced diet can offer you protection against tartar.

  • Avoid Smoking

Smoking has a lot of negative effects on health. But perhaps the one that is ignored most is the effect it has on your dental health. Chemicals in tobacco products affect saliva formation in the mouth, making it easier for oral bacteria to stick to teeth and gums. This increases the risk of periodontal diseases. Active smokers are three times more likely to suffer from tartar. It can lead to discoloration in the gums and fall out of your teeth. The best way is to avoid smoking.

Dental care is often neglected because of the lack of awareness. But learning more about it and seeking assistance from a dentist can take you a long way.
