Two Resolutions and a Lie
Two Resolutions and a Lie never fails to liven up a party. In this game, each guest presents three resolutions to the other players. However, two of these are true, while the other one is a lie.
Each guest will take turns sharing theirs, and the other players will guess which two resolutions are true and which one is the lie. The prize goes to the guest with the most accurate answers. This game can be done virtually or in person.
Never Have I Ever…
Never Have I Ever is a social drinking game that can be played with many people. Each participant will start by making a statement that starts with “Never have I ever…” followed by an activity they’ve never done or an experience they’ve never had.
Any player who has done the thing mentioned has to take a sip of their drink. The game goes on until one of the players quits or is too drunk to continue. In this game, good Never Have I Ever questions are great if you want to know more about your co-players.
Who Am I?
Who Am I? is a word game where you give sticky notes to guests, who need to write down the name of a famous person. The person can be a celebrity, a book character, a movie character, or a sports star.
Each person will then ask other guests questions to determine who they are. The questions should only be answerable with a yes or a no. You lose the game if you’re the last person to guess the name of your famous person.
A variation of the game can be done during dinner, where guests focus on one person’s chosen celebrity and take turns asking questions.
Balloon Pop Charades
In this game, you’ll fill inflated balloons with pieces of paper with words and phrases related to the New Year. Participants will take turns popping the balloons and acting out what’s written on their paper.
You keep track of the time each player takes to act out the word or phrase, and the guest with the shortest time wins the game. You can also try various charades ideas online for inspiration.
Sweet Challenge
Using only a straw, each player will suck candies in a bowl and try to transfer the candies into a smaller cup or bowl. They can’t use their hands to finish the challenge.
Each player should continue to suck and transfer candies until the timer is up. The player with the most transferred candies wins the game.
Guess the Resolution
In this game, each guest will write their New Year’s resolution on a piece of paper. Collect the papers and mix them into a bowl. This can be done right after they arrive at the place or in the beginning of the party.
To start the game, pick one random paper from the bowl and read the resolution aloud. Everyone has to guess who they think has written the resolution — follow up. The player with the most correct answers wins.
King of Kisses
You need a couple of Hershey Kisses bags for this game. You’ll give each of your female guests five Kisses, and the men must try to obtain as many kisses as they can from the women by wooing them. Singing, joking, dancing, and other ways to woo are allowed.
The man with the most number of kisses by the end of the night will be the King of Kisses. Your prize can be the second bag of Hershey Kisses. If you want, the King can also choose his Queen, who’ll also win a prize. This game is great for mingling and matchmaking.
Virtual Murder Mystery
This one’s best for virtual teams and families who can’t travel and be physically together for the New Year. You can find virtual murder mystery games online where you and your guests take on roles and act out a murder investigation. This game is great for conversation, participation, and engagement.
