Who Is A Party Planner?

Having so many ideas in mind on how to run parties and events is not enough to stand in the position of a party planner. Here’s what you need to know.

A party planner is someone who organizes a party or an event, making sure every activity goes on smoothly and suits the needs of your client.

Aside from having so much zeal and idea towards planning parties, a party planner is someone that listens to a client, picks up the event planning from start, develops ideas, execute them, and professionally holds the event till the end.

Having said that, here are key ways to become a party planner.

How To Become A Party Planner

1. Get A Niche

Every party planner can start as a jack of all, but for professionalism, experience, branding, and specialization, it is best to pick a niche that suits you.

You can focus on birthday parties, weddings, boat parties, corporate gatherings, or artistic events. Beyond that, you could also streamline your services to a certain aspect of party planning, say; decorating or catering.

2. Develop Necessary Skills

Having discovered a niche, developing essential planning skills will help build your knowledge and experience in the long run. The best way to get this done is by volunteering or working as an intern with corporate firms or professional party planners.

You can also help plan parties and other events for your loved ones to gain experience.

3. Be Certified

Being a party planner is as important as becoming an accountant, hence, you will need to attend certification programs, register your business, and meet up with the legal requirement in your state.

This doesn’t only give you a good resume, it shows your credibility and also helps you relate with other professionals

4. Build A Portfolio

Having done all of the above, the next step is building a portfolio, you have all it takes to organize parties and other events for clients. Your portfolio helps you when scouting for jobs, clients will always want to see your previous jobs.

Start with a small event or any that comes your way, the idea is not its magnitude but how well you do it.

5. Build Relationships

In business, having a positive relationship with vendors and clients keeps you running and successful. The right vendor will help you avoid having delayed and counterfeit supplies, and in the long run, you can also negotiate prices.

For clients, networking during events is a tool to attract them. Also, having a list of their contact allows you to pitch your services regularly. Business cards, catalogs, fliers, and other social media ads are good tools for networking.

The idea is this, don’t damage any relationship with clients, and always deliver more than expected.
