There’s nothing better than walking into your bedroom after a long, stressful day. You dim the lights and light some candles. You spray lavender pillow spray all over your bed, turn on some relaxing music, and pull your favorite book out. As soon as you get into bed, all your stresses from the day disappear. While this would be the ideal way to fall asleep every night, it seldom happens. More often than not, you stumble into bed, stare at your phone for an hour, and fall asleep with the lights still on. You also may wake up periodically throughout the night, and in the morning, you feel groggy and agitated. 

To prevent this scenario, creating a relaxing sleep environment is essential, as it will help you achieve a good night’s rest. Going to sleep in a comforting bedroom can ensure you fall asleep and stay asleep. 1. Choose Soothing Colors

If you’re trying to revamp your room into a more relaxing space, it’s important to choose soothing colors, such as blue, green, pink, and white. Being surrounded by these colors at bedtime can help you feel less stressed. Incorporate these colors into your walls, decorations, furniture, and bedding. You’ll feel more relaxed in no time.

2. Have a Comfortable Bed

If nothing else, you need a comfortable bed. How else are you going to fall asleep at night? No one wants to go to sleep on a mattress that is as hard as a rock and sheets that feel like sandpaper. In order to create your optimal sleep sanctuary, you need a comfortable bed. It can also be helpful to have a weighted blanket, which can improve sleep quality by reducing stress and anxiety. 

3. Minimize Light

A bright room is definitely not ideal for sleep. To have a good night’s rest, you want your room to be as dark as possible. If you can’t achieve that by just turning off the lights, you can wear a sleep mask and get blackout curtains. You should also avoid turning on bright lights in your bedroom during the evening. If you need to have the lights on, use a lamp with a warm ember bulb, which is more relaxing and less harsh than a regular light bulb.

4. Reduce Outside Noise

The last step in creating your optimal sleep sanctuary is reducing outside noise. The ideal sleep environment is dark and quiet, so it’s important to try to eliminate as much noise as possible. If your partner snores or if you live somewhere with a lot of noise, there are a couple of things you can do. For example, you can use a sound machine to block out noise. You can also sleep with earplugs in. Or, you can use sleep headphones, which are noise cancelling headphones that let you play your own sounds. Reducing outside noise will help you fall asleep faster and sleep soundly throughout the night.

Getting a good night’s rest is important for several reasons. It is how we are able to function properly throughout the day. It is also how we stay healthy and happy. Sometimes, however, getting that good night’s rest we deserve isn’t so easy, especially when you have a poor sleep environment. Creating your optimal sleep sanctuary doesn’t have to be difficult. You simply have to make a few changes, like getting a new mattress or sleeping with headphones.
