How to Fix an iPhone That Won’t Turn Off

As of 2022, more than 1 billion people are using Apple iPhones worldwide. People have come to appreciate that iPhones are some of the most reliable smartphones.

That said, there are some instances where your iPhone might not work as you expect it to. For example, you might find that your iPhone won’t turn off in a few cases for one reason or another.

Is your iPhone not turning off at the moment? If so, you shouldn’t panic too much, as this is one of the most common iPhone problems. It’ll take a little bit of iPhone troubleshooting to get your phone working like usual again.

Just make sure that you act fast so that you don’t do any damage to your iPhone screen or iPhone battery by leaving it on for longer than you should. Here is how to fix an iPhone when it’s not turning off for you.

Begin by Pressing the Volume Up Button and Releasing It

If you notice your iPhone not turning off when you press the power button, you might just not be holding this button down for long enough. In this case, you should try pressing the power button again and holding it slightly longer to see if it shuts off your phone.

If it does, great. You won’t have to worry about taking any other steps to fix your iPhone. But if this doesn’t do the trick, you must press several other buttons to get your phone to turn off.

The first button you’ll need to push will be the volume-up button on your iPhone. You should push this button for a split second and then release it immediately. Try not to hold this button down for any longer than you have to since it could result in you being unable to shut your iPhone off.

Press the Volume Down Button and Release It

Once you’ve pressed the volume up button and released it, you’ll want to push the volume down button and release it just like you did with the volume up button. Again, you should keep this button pressed for a split second before letting go of it.

You’re always free to stop what you’re doing and start over if you feel you’ve held either the volume up or the volume down button for too long. But it should be simple enough to push these two buttons one after the other before moving on to the next step.

Press the Side Button and Hold It Down

After pressing the volume up and volume down buttons, you should find the button on the side of your iPhone and hold it down. But in this case, you won’t want to push this button down and release it immediately.

Instead, you should press the side button and hold it down for at least a few seconds. This will let your iPhone know that you want it to power down immediately.

Release the Side Button When the Apple Logo Pops Up

As long as you’ve done everything we’ve discussed here, you should see the Apple logo pop up on your screen while holding down the button on the side of your iPhone. At this point, you can let this button go and allow your phone to restart so that it will begin working usually.

This entire process should only take you a few seconds at most. But even still, you should take your time and follow the steps we’ve laid out here to turn off your phone and get it to restart. If you don’t do something right, your iPhone will remain on and continue to cause problems.

Wait and Repeat These Steps If Your iPhone Remains On

If you take the steps we’ve provided for you here, and your iPhone is still on, there is a good chance that you didn’t do one of the steps right. You should put your iPhone down for a minute and then go back through the process.

You can try to take this approach to deal with an iPhone that won’t turn off as many times as you would like. It should eventually work for you and allow you to begin using your iPhone again.

Why You Should Turn Off Your iPhone Every So Often

Some people get into the habit of leaving their iPhones on almost all the time and don’t even realize that their iPhone is not turning off. You should avoid doing this if you can since leaving your iPhone on all the time slows your phone down and causes other issues.

If you notice something on your iPhone isn’t working right, you should also try to restart it to see if that fixes things. If, for example, the Live Wallpaper on your iPhone 12 isn’t working, restarting your phone could do the trick and resolve the issue. This helpful page will break this problem down for you further.

Is Your iPhone Not Turning Off? Try These Things ASAP

It can be very frustrating if you have an iPhone not turning off on your hands. You might not know what in the world you should do with it.

But as you’ve seen here, fixing an iPhone that won’t turn off shouldn’t be an issue that haunts you for very long. Follow a few simple steps to get your iPhone working like new.
