We all love our furry friends, and hopefully we got them at a time in our lives where we knew we could give them the live and attention they deserve. Pets may only be a small part of our lives, but to them we’re the whole world – and they need lots of energy! However, no matter how responsible a pet owner you are, there will be times in your life that you’re busier than others and your pet will need entertaining at home alone – especially if you’re dealing with a busy period at work which keeps you out of the house for long hours during the day.

1. Ask a neighbour to check in in the day

This is especially important if your chosen pet is a dog because they are such sociable animals and need human interactions – however, all pets want company during the day. If you have a friend nearby or a friendly neighbour who would have time during the day to pop in, then setting this up with them could be an ideal way to keep your pet entertained. They wouldn’t have to stay long – even half an hour of companionship should do the trick.

2. Toys

For smaller, more self sufficient animals like cats, hunting toys may be the way forward.something they can chase around the house and make up their own games with should keep them happy and entertained all day long, especially if you invest in a variety – some which make noise, some with different textures and with different functions. The same is true with dogs, though for bigger animals it’s advisable to get bigger toys like balls, or bones they can chew on.

3. Install a pet door

If you are lucky enough to live somewhere where you have a big garden or easy access to safe open space (with not too many busy roads around), then you should make sure that you install a pet door.
