How To Prepare For Class 11 Maths Without Tuitions And Score Higher

If you are planning to prepare for class 11 maths yourself, you need to strategize things before you kick start your preparation. Every step should be thoughtful because this will also impact your class 12 and competitive exams. Since you are opting for self-study, you need to be consistent in your studies. A majority of the concepts that you study in maths will be applied in physics on a large scale. Therefore, you need to focus on important topics. Listed below are few suggestions which will be beneficial for your preparation:

  • Check your syllabus: The syllabus for class 11 maths is as follows –
TERM – I TERM – II
1. Sets 1. Trigonometric Functions
2. Relations & Functions 2. Linear Inequalities
3. Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations 3. Permutations and Combinations
4. Sequence and Series 4. Conic Sections
5. Straight Lines 5. Introduction to Three-dimensional Geometry
6. Limits 6. Derivatives
7. Statistics 7. Probability
TOTAL THEORY MARKS: 40 TOTAL THEORY MARKS: 40
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT: 10 INTERNAL ASSESSMENT: 10
TOTAL MARKS: 50 TOTAL MARKS: 50

  • Plan a strategy to get hold of the subject: Prepare a layout of what you are going to do throughout the day. Practice maths daily. Even if you are revising theory, spare some time for maths.
  • Follow NCERT pattern: Begin with chapter one in the NCERT book. Take an overview of the chapter in which all topics are included, examples, and exercises. First, read the theory portion in the NCERT book and then watch lectures online, regarding the topic of the chapter. Watch only one lecture a day, make notes and then solve questions. By reading the chapter from the NCERT book, you will get an overview of what the chapter is about and then watching a video of the same topic will make the concept clear for you for about 60%. Then revising from your notes and reading it again will make it up to 80%. Once you solve the questions, you will reach 100%. Prefer studying chapter-wise rather than randomly picking up chapters from the book. This is because the chapters in the book are arranged according to order as some concepts go hand in hand and sometimes two or more chapters are related which makes it easier for the child to understand if they go in order.
  • Solve NCERT first then other extra books: Solving questions from the exercise at the end of each chapter in the NCERT book will boost your confidence as most of the conceptual questions asked in the exams are based on the questions you will solve in NCERT. You can also refer to Vedantu Class 11 maths NCERT solutions for help while you are stuck solving a question. Using refreshers is going to help you practice the tough tier questions, which eventually ends up helping you save time in exams as you don’t have to waste time brainstorming in the exam hall. Also in theoretical subjects, the answers given in the refreshers are to-the-point.
  • Set targets for yourself: One of the major hurdles is to manage your time, as most students do not plan their time accordingly. Last-minute pressures end up drastically affecting your health. Therefore, set targets for yourself. Some students make timetables, and then end up procrastinating. Hence, it is important to set targets. For example, set 3-day or weekly targets, select chapters, and then study without skipping anything important. Setting targets will keep you focused. Plan breaks in between so that you don’t lose your enthusiasm easily. Consistency is more important than covering the entire syllabus in 15 days. The 15-day plan sounds more tempting and most of the children get attracted to this, not understanding that cramming things will not help them. In the 12th standard, you have to deep dive and understand the basis of the concept. Dividing your portion into small chunks helps you stay stress-free, and once you get habituated with this, it gets enjoyable with time. It enhances your grasping and reading power.
  • Daily Revision: The most important thing to consider is to revise regularly. This will help you in later chapters where previously taught concepts need to be applied. Try developing a habit to revise whatever is taught throughout the day, at night. Add a weekly revision plan to your schedule where you will recapitulate all the concepts studied all week long.
  • Short notes – Prepare short notes of all the chapters. When you are working on any concept, write a summary that includes a bit of theory, formula, and important concepts, which you can refer to later on while following the weekly or monthly revision plan. These short notes will save a lot of time during revision, especially when there are few days left for your examination. Also, whenever you are solving questions, you can first revise these short notes and then solve questions. This will boost your confidence and help you solve problems.
  • Previous year questions: After you are done with all the NCERT questions, try solving the previous year question papers to get an idea of the level of the questions that are asked in the examinations. Also, try solving different varieties of questions instead of practising the same type and level of questions. Search for shortcut tricks and techniques to increase your speed in competitive exams.
  • Analyse your mistakes: The most important part of your preparation is to analyze your mistakes and work on them. Try to avoid silly mistakes and strengthen your weakness as much as possible. Give tests and set timers for solving those tests. Check your answers and see where you’ve made mistakes. Focus more on the concepts that need revision and more practice.

When you follow all these suggestions, you won’t have any difficulty in cracking the examination. You need to believe that you can do this and see how good things unfold in front of you. Give it your best shot. Be calm in every situation. Keep yourself healthy physically as well as mentally. Good luck!
