How to Recover Fast After Getting Seriously Injured At Work

One of the worst situations has arisen and you find yourself injured at work. What should you do at a time like this? The most important thing that you can do is take the time to get better so you can get back to your job as soon as possible. When it comes to recovering though, your work might want you back sooner than you are able to.

Here is how you can recover fast after getting seriously injured at work.

Go to the Doctors

The first step you should take after getting seriously injured is going to the doctor. The doctor will diagnose your injury, create a plan for recovery, and give you everything you need to get better. With minor injuries, this might not be necessary, but if you are suffering from a severe sprain, concussion, or a broken bone, going to the doctor is essential.

The one thing you might worry about when it comes to going to the doctor is the price of the visit. If the injury occurred at work, you do not have to worry as your work will cover the expenses along with giving you your pay that you are missing due to injury. These laws are in place all over the country, from South Carolina to New York. A South Carolina workers’ comp lawyer, strongly recommends going to the doctor as there are no downsides to it after a work injury. Not only that, a doctor will help you get all of your documentation needed to prove that you will need to miss work. This will bolster your case when you file for worker’s comp. Make sure that you are going to the doctor after the injury to not only help with your recovery but to ensure that you get the compensation you deserve.

Rest

After you have gone to the doctor, it’s time to go home, lay down, and relax for the next few days. Your work might be pressuring you to get back in, however, you are at a heightened risk of re-injury while you are recovering. If a doctor says you need two weeks of time off, it means you will be staying home for two weeks. As mentioned above, your worker’s comp will cover you during this time period so don’t feel like you have to get yourself back in to make money. Resting is one of the best ways to ensure your injury heals properly.

Stretching and Range Of Motion

As your body begins to heal the muscles that were damaged in the injury, they will begin to stiffen up. This can cause you to lose some range of motion as these muscles have been resting for a while. Take a bit of time every day to do some stretching involving the injured section of your body but be careful when you do so. If there are intense amounts of pain while doing these exercises, stop them immediately as your body is telling you, you are not ready for these types of motions. Your stretches and range of motion exercises should start out really simple, slowly engaging the muscle groups and when they begin to unstiffen, look for larger exercises. This will get your muscles working sooner and will allow you to recover that much better.

Heat and Ice

Finally, if you want to make a difference in your healing time, look to apply heat and ice towards the injury. While a lot of people will apply these two to their injury, they don’t fully know what each of them does.

Ice

Ice helps to slow down blood flow in the area, and as a result of this, reduces swelling. It is important to note however that not all swelling is bad, as it is your body’s natural defense system to immobilize a target area. That being said, you don’t want to have too much swelling. Look to apply ice to lower the swelling to a more acceptable range.

Heat

Heat does the exact opposite and speeds up blood flow in the area, allowing your body to get more nutrients and blood over to it. The heat will help speed up recovery as it essentially turns your body’s networks into highways in the area. The heat will cause a slight increase in swelling however so look to use it with ice for best results.

These are all great ways to recover quickly from an injury and get back as soon as possible. Never rush your recovery and don’t worry about pay, as your lawyer will help you get the compensation that you need. How do you plan on recovering after your injury?
