How to Treat Foot Pain While Golfing

Most of us do not associate golf with other high-impact sports such as running, weight training or football. However, we need to remember that golfers are likely to walk miles during every outing and they will often need to navigate challenging terrain. When we then consider slippery surfaces and poor weather conditions, it becomes clear to understand why those who play golf on a regular basis have been known to suffer from some chronic conditions. In fact, they will often encounter problems with their feet. Let’s examine a handful of issues to keep an eye out for before moving on to discuss some all-natural remedies.

What Orthopaedic Problems Can be Caused by Golf?

Anyone who has ever remained standing for long periods of time is aware that their feet can become sore. Although this is normally transient, golfers can begin to experience a chronic condition known as “metatarsalgia”. This is often a non-specific type of discomfort and it may persist after the game itself has ended. Some other problems include:

  • Soreness in the heel (known as plantar fasciitis).
  • Tendonitis
  • Morton’s Neuroma (bundles of nerves which become sore and sensitive over time)

The main issue is that many golfers tend to overlook these conditions, believing that the issues will simply go away on their own. However, they are likely to become worse if not addressed within a timely fashion. What are some healthy habits to adopt if you hope to limit the risks mentioned above?

Are Golf Shoes Worth It?

One effective way to reduce pain is to invest in a pair of high-quality golf shoes and custom shoe insoles. This footwear has been ergonomically designed to provide your feet with a greater degree of comfort and mobility. Golf shoes can also reduce pressure upon key areas such as the heel and the instep.

CBD Supplements

You might also be surprised to learn that CBD can be used to treat sore feet. CBD is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits and it will also offer pain-relieving qualities. This is an all-natural substance and there are few (if any) side effects. CBD for golfers is becoming an increasingly popular option; especially when purchasing high-quality supplements with no other added ingredients.

Pre-Game Stretching

Much like any other joint of the body, the feet can become stiff over time. It is always a good idea to properly warm up before any trip to the links. This is even more important if you plan on playing a full 18 holes. Stretching out your feet and ankles will also provide these locations with a greater supply of blood. This can help to reduce the chances of injuries such as calf cramps and sprained ankles.

Always remember that feet are the foundations of any solid golf game. Treating them properly and appreciating some common injuries are some of the best ways to enjoy a fun and rewarding experience. This is true regardless of your age or your current skill level.
