The day when I planned to move to San Diego, due to my endeavors and job issues. It was the day, where I knew how things would go after we would travel. I’ve been reading about the city before I finally decided to move to San Diego. The first thing that fascinated me about San Diego was the different climate seasons San Diego has. For example, the beach climate, monsoon climate, and temperature climate. Since I’m a family person I have kids, which is indeed nice as San Diego has ample zoos, museums, beaches, malls, pools, and nature to explore. I did my research well be it for safety, food, housing, job, location, etc. Some of the points I want to share are my experience with San Diego as a city.
We felt safe as we have been surrounded by hospitals, healthcare, and police. I did notice that there were more families in the army than we ever imagined.
Many restaurants mainly have good Asian food.
The rent is much cheaper in Boston than in the Bay Area. We had a 4 compartment house having the rent of $2500 which is comparatively very cheaper than where I was staying.
I knew traveling would already cost us a lot, so before that, we thought that I should go for a DIY move. The basic idea I had was that this will help me in saving a ton but unfortunately, these are all myths that a DIY can save your money. Sometimes finding the right movers will help you in things that you would ever imagine and this is exactly what happened to me. There can be advantages of a DIY for a person who knows it all, or who has done it before. For me, the difficulties I came across was something that a person who is planning to move will never want experience. Hereby I am sharing some of the basics that I came across and the difficulties I had in my journey of moving to San Diego. Being a family person I know traveling isn’t a cup of coffee and especially with children and above all else, we decided to go for a DIY move. After planning and executing too we came across that we need to hire someone who knows his job well and can help me in my journey and can make the move and moving a bit easier. It’s really important to know what is right and what is wrong for you and your family and if you’re moving with your family and especially kids you have to be more conscious in every way.
Here are the few points I wanna talk about that I felt like everyone should know before planning a DIY move. So that by my experience other people can gain prior knowledge though.
- Do not underestimate the time required for a self-move
In a self-move, you’re the one who has to plan everything from A to Z be it packing, unpacking, boxes, finalizing the truck, etc. Sometimes, we neglect the most important things to do in a self-move that is time management. Just imagine your day of traveling is tomorrow and you haven’t completed the packing today itself only.
- Self-Move is cheaper I thought
The biggest misconception of all time, hiring movers is expensive, and self-move is reasonable. If you’re planning to hire movers then you should know every bit of it. There are seasons of the year, where if you plan a move then you most probably will be getting a discount. And also, on weekdays the rates will be cheaper and also it depends upon company to company. In a self-move, from packing to unpacking, buying all the move boxes and supplies you have to buy it by yourself. Which can turn out to be more expensive than hiding movers if you don’t know how to take things.
- Stop Assuming
Moving is a strenuous process and even more strenuous when it comes to you doing the entire work. Movers would know all the essentials and requirements that needed to be taken care of while shifting for example, which type of moving boxes will be needed? What will be the size of the truck? Etc. But when it comes to DIY, we forget such things and start making assumptions about the same. Sometimes in a hurry, we take things that are not even needed. To ease up the process one should know all the important things that are related directly or indirectly to the moving process.
After all the above things that I mentioned, I finally decided to go with hiring professional movers knowing that they would ease up the process. And I’m thankful that I took this decision before it was late. This isn’t meant that a DIY will always be unsuccessful, it is just that when you know everything about the move and you know you can do that then only go for doing it yourself, otherwise, you have a good option on the hand. “Hiring of professional movers” and nowadays, you can also go for packing and unpacking services. Sometimes you think what right turns out to be not so right and you have always got an option back in the head and that is what I did and my moving journey became much easier.
Normally, we remind San Diego of its perfect weather and miles of walking on the grain with your family or friends, and especially it is known for its world-class beaches. After moving to San Diego, except all the hardships that have been following in the process, it was a great feeling to be finally shifting to a new place with your family. Moving is not an easy task to be performed which can be indeed strenuous if you don’t know what to do and especially what not to do. A person who is well equipped and knows all the basics, be it about the truck size or the sizes of the boxes. Then only your moving journey could be easier.
