Knocked-Out Tooth? Here’s What To Do

A tooth can be knocked out if a person’s jaw is struck with great force. When this happens, the best course of action is to find the tooth and try to put it back into its socket as soon as possible or at least keep the tooth moist with a saliva-moistened cloth. In addition, the patient should not clean off any dirt from the tooth but instead try to immediately re-insert it into the socket. Also, the nest step must be to visit a dentist in Blackburn. Alternatively, you can also get scaling services or dental implants in Colorado Springs.

As for avoiding further damage from an infection or additional knockouts, some things can be done:

1) Spit on the gums above where your lost tooth is located and massage your gums in a circular pattern around your teeth every half hour.

2)Try to use a washcloth to clean off any dirt from your gums and teeth as soon as possible.

3) Avoid eating or drinking anything that may damage the replacement tooth, but try to eat soft foods such as ice cream, yoghurt, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc.

If you have taken these steps and still cannot find your lost tooth within 24 hours of the first time, it was knocked out. However, it is probably a good idea to go to the dentist. There are many reasons why seeing a dental professional would be in your best interest if your lost tooth has not been found after 24 hours: x-ray images can be taken to find where the lost tooth is located. There are also surgical procedures to help replace the lost tooth or implant a false replacement tooth to make up for the missing teeth if the time between when it was knocked out has been long enough.

In addition, there are unique treatments available at dental offices to fight against an infection that could have started in your mouth after losing your tooth to provide comfort and relief.

Some treatments that the dentist may suggest to fix the knocked-out tooth includes:

If the tooth is severely damaged, an artificial replacement tooth may be inserted in the place of the lost one while letting the gums heal for a few weeks to 6 months.

If, after six months have passed, there are still no replacement options available, gum grafting or dental implants are two other treatment possibilities. Gum grafting entails taking tissue from another part of your mouth and using it to cover over where the roots of your former knocked-out tooth used to be located. These soft tissues moved around could include skin or connective tissue found on your palate or near your gum line. On the other hand, dental implants would involve replacing your lost tooth with a metal post that has been surgically implanted into your jawbones and also capped by crowns made from porcelain or material such as gold, titanium or ceramic.

You will need to make sure your mouth is completely clean when doing this. This is because any form of infection in your mouth could cause serious problems later on, such as nerve damage, swelling of tissue and further injuries, leading to infection if not treated immediately.
