When disaster strikes, e.g., hurricanes, COVID-19, wildfires, and the like, a mobile command center can be useful to help restore communications to areas that need it. From internet services to phone services and SIP services for two-way voice communication, these platforms enable connectivity even in the wake of bomb threats, demonstrations, natural disasters, or other critical events.

When such a crisis strike, mobile command centers are useful in relaying messages and can serve as the focal point for strategy meetings and tactical operations.

Are you in the market for a mobile command center trailer? You can visit this page and see some options. It is also essential to do extensive research when shopping for a mobile command center trailer. There are many components and considerations that set a top performer apart from the rest. Here are some essential features you should look out for when getting a mobile command center.

Contents

  • 1. Satellite system
  • 2. Mobile communications
  • 3. Climate control
  • 4. Generator
  • 5. Adequate storage
  • 6. Kitchen and bathroom
  • 7. Pneumatic Mast

1. Satellite system

Besides the usual communication systems, a top mobile command center has a VSAT auto system, enabling the center to provide network access to even the most remote areas. This means that the users can access the internet and stay ahead on the latest news and hear important updates on the weather or the disasters they are currently dealing with.

A satellite also assures its users that communication channels are intact, and even if normal communication channels stop working, they still can communicate with each other.

While satellite connectivity is already a huge step ahead in mobile center communications, the most advanced and futuristic models may also include access to private or public 4G LTE and 5G network. While 4G LTE could provide faster broadband services than 3G, 5G is a more capable platform that improves mobile broadband experiences and supports new services like massive IoT and mission control communications. 5G networks can support all connections whether shared, licensed, or unlicensed and bands whether low, medium, or high plus a wide range of deployment models from traditional macro-cells to hotspots and new ways to interconnect( device to device) or multi-hop mesh.

Across the country, responders can leverage this connectivity as an alternative to connecting via satellite or LTE networks. If this option is available on your mobile command center, it will also have routers and repeaters that allow users access and expand the signal as required.

2. Mobile communications

Without communication equipment, your mobile command center may be ineffective. Depending on your budget and what you want to use it for, you can choose a mobile trailer with a different range of communication capabilities.

A basic mobile command center trailer should provide some telephone access level through a pre-assigned number like the Private Branch Exchange (PBX) system with cellular and landline capability. It should also include access to radio and audio/visual (A/V) technology.

3. Climate control

Communications shouldn’t cease to exist even when the weather outside is not conducive. A reliable mobile command center comes equipped with a climate-controlled interior. This is essential so that its users can still access the systems they need for as long as they will be using the trailer even though the weather outside is not so favorable.

Remember that a mobile command center is likely to be stationed in a remote area often for long periods. The mobile command center should be capable of sustaining a comfortable environment for working. Climate control is also essential because it helps ensure that all mission-critical communication systems are still running at safe temperatures.

4. Generator

Most mobile command centers should have some form of an on-scene power source. Some come equipped with a diesel generator, which runs from 8KW to 3OKW. These can easily mount to the mobile command center in a ventilated and insulated compartment. Its usually stored near the rear of the vehicle or under the interior setting or storage to reduce noise.

5. Adequate storage

Your mobile command center should have adequate storage. Your hardware, paperwork, and workspace should all fit well. Your designer can install extra storage components that will allow you to store some things from metal overhead storage cabinets to racks and equipment cabinets. There are many options available. Ensure to make use of the storage space to make your work environment as neat as possible to avoid clutter.

6. Kitchen and bathroom

Interior bathrooms are a must if you are planning to have dispatchers on board. Some mobile command center trailers have bathrooms that can only be accessed from the exterior, while others don’t come with bathrooms. For the ones with no bathrooms, they may come with portables instead. While these options have their advantages, getting a trailer with a bathroom accessible from the interior is a better choice to consider.

You may need your mobile command center for longer, and a kitchen will come in handy. While you don’t need a commercial setup, look for a space that allows you to store some essentials, food, and you can prepare something to eat when necessary. This way, even emergency dispatchers can work effectively and stay hydrated.

7. Pneumatic Mast

Your mobile command center includes several antennas, which makes a pneumatic mast a requirement. They can range from 40 feet to 80 feet tall; they can extend the antennae ranges much faster than the roof-mounted versions can reach. The pneumatic mast create a platform where users can mount antennas for the following;

  • Video surveillance equipment
  • Land mobile radios and repeaters
  • HAM radio antennas
  • Television antennas
  • Weather station equipment
  • Cellular extenders antennas
  • Wireless LAN/WAN antennas

Mobile command center trailers are essential in providing a quick response when disasters happen. They should be well equipped to help make the work of dispatchers and people working with it a lot easier. Get a designer who understands and has worked with such trailers before. Ensure you do your research and get the best trailer with all the features mentioned and even more to make your work easier and more effective.
