What Is Used For Cutting Concrete?

The process of concrete cutting Sydney is an everyday necessity during the construction of various projects. It involves a controlled process of sawing, drilling, and removal of concrete to allow for remodeling and building. There are so many reasons behind the cutting of concrete, and it can range from making joints, establishing a path for good drainage, or installing plumbing. There are special considerations that need to be looked upon during the concrete cutting regarding various projects. Therefore, it is essential to identify the best tool to use when dealing with different concretes. In addition, it is good to point out the ideal locations of the cut, that is, where to begin and where to stop the cut. The following tools can be used to cut different concretes depending on the need for cutting.

Chain Saw 

The chain saw is a device that can either use gas or a piece of battery-powered equipment. It is used to cut through concrete slabs, which should not exceed 24 inches due to its long arm. It contains a set of teeth installed along the rotating chain and is driving through a guided bar. With the chain, it produces perfect corners and straight lines based on the preferences, for example, if installing an HVAC or removing a section of the wall. Also, the chain saw offers a safe cutting operation with absolutely no kickback associated with the wood chain. However, when selecting the chain saw to be used, it is important to consider the type of cut openings it shall be used to cut. 

Circular Saw 

It is a kind of saw which resembles a chain saw, but it is a smaller type. Oppositely, it is made of a circular saw which features a metal blade containing teeth. The circular plate makes spins round a circle; conversely, this kind of a saw does not cut through a considerable depth of the concrete as the chain saw. It is a type of saw which is often used for cutting flat surfaces such as floors, slabs, and roads. It is most commonly used for pavements and roads, which constitute the need for making joints, demolition, and trenching. 

Slab Saws 

It resembles a chain saw, but the difference comes in with how much deep it makes; it is possible to cut up to 32 inches of concrete. It is most applicable to roads or flat saws in some instances. Its strength can handle projects such as roads and water channels. These saws often use a hydraulic or pneumatic diamond chainsaw, which has more power and utilizes guide bars for openings up to 25 inches. In these machines, there is a high ratio of power to weight; for instance, if it involves hard cutting with steel reinforcements, in such a case, high-performance saws are important. 

Wire Saw 

If the need arises, which involves cutting a large portion, the best available tool is the wire saw. It is suitable for projects which are not suitable for the chain and circular saws. It is the best tool for cutting large lengths and depths; otherwise not possible for the blade-mounted machines. Elements such as pillars, abutments, foundations, thick walls, and equipment pads are much easier to be separated with less noise using the wire saw. 

Core Drilling 

As the name suggests, it is a machine used to make holes for all surfaces that constitute concrete and is capable of making tabular holes. Due to its possible adjustments can make holes as small as one and a half inches and as big as 60 inches in diameter. It is mostly used to establish holes for plumbing, wiring, anchor bolts, and electrical cables involving concrete. It is also applicable when taking samples from the concrete, which are tested in the laboratory; they are capable of drilling at any angle. 

Wall Sawing 

 It is a slightly modified version of a circular saw mounted on the wall with the help of a guide rail. The rail moves with the rail; it can cut up to a depth of three feet on the sides. It is popularly used to remove HVAC sections, stair openings and elevators, windows and demolitions, and cuts at any angle. 

Hammer Chisel 

It is a tool for cutting concrete that depends on the concrete’s hardness. It is a tool that cuts to a limited depth, and a common one is referred to as a chisel. It is characterized by a sharp cutting edge of the blade at its end. 

Concrete Saw Walk Behind

It is a modified version of the circular saw but is bigger in its diameter. It constitutes a specifically designed frame while fitted with a circular blade. The users apply their efforts to push or pull the frame from behind, which is why it is referred to its name (concrete saw walk behind).
