Whats So Great about Cold Pressed Juice

Cold pressed juice is a very recent phenomenon to sweep the nation. Juiceries have opened across the nation and many are still wondering what a juicery is and what it entails. The answer that is typically given is that it’s a place that sells juice but in reality this statement is quite the understatement. Juiceries utilize a special method of juicing where high pressure is used to squeeze out the juice from fruits and vegetables. What makes cold pressed juice stand out from the competition is that the juice never undergoes heat treatment or other processes to increase shelf life. This is done to ensure the juice is in its most absolutely basic form which is the best tasting and healthiest. From cold pressed green juice, to cold pressed lemonade, there is a wide variety of options to choose from to match anybody’s flavor palette. Below is a discussion of the reasons that cold pressed juice is so special.

All Natural

Cold pressed juice is all natural and a great way to get your recommended daily servings of both vegetables and fruit. Cold pressed juices will be the most natural form of juice you will find with nearly all the ingredients being derived from pressing the whole food. While the topic of all natural is frequently debated it is ultimately always better to have foods that are made from whole foods and a low number of ingredients. Cold pressed meets these requirements and provides a quick and easy way to get your fruit and vegetables in an all natural juice.

No Additives

Standard juice contains many different added ingredients to increase its shelf life and palatability. While additives are good for prolonging the shelf life of the beverage the health effects are often debated. Many people recommend all natural products and to avoid foods and drinks that are full of preservatives. A common preservative that is often used is sugar and salt. In high concentration these ingredients reduce the ability of bacteria and other contaminants to grow but these come at a cost. High sodium can lead to high blood pressure while high sugar can contribute to a higher caloric value of the beverage and could be problematic for diabetics. Cold pressed juices contain no added preservatives, no added sodium, and no added sugar. These make cold pressed juices a much healthier option than other standard juices.

It uses hydraulic presses

One cool thing about cold pressed drinks is the way the juice is actually extracted from the fruits and vegetables. Rather than going through a standard juicer, many cold pressed juices will use a hydraulic press. This method of juicing is able to extract more juice from the fruit than a standard juicer. One example of this is when juicing a lemon a typical juicer is unable to extract the zesty juice contained in the rind. With a hydraulic press this juice is able to be extracted which adds flavor and even more nutrition into the bread.

No pasteurization

Pasteurization is a process created by Louis Pasteur in the 19th century. The process of pasteurization kills off the bacteria within the solution in an effective manner which allows it to go longer without spoiling. Milk is a common pasteurized product found in stores. A less commonly known pasteurized product is actually standard juices. With juice being something bacteria enjoy for its natural vitamins and nutrition many companies deem it necessary to pasteurize. The fact of the matter is that this process is not always necessary and actually does have drawbacks. One major drawback to the process is that it can lead to the denaturing of essential enzymes that are naturally occurring in the juice of fruit. These enzymes can positively affect the body but the pasteurization these enzymes are destroyed due to the high heat that is created during the process. Cold pressed juices are never pasteurized because they are meant to be consumed within a couple of days of being juiced. Because cold pressed juice is fresh it doesnt need to undergo the process and is able to retain these enzymes. Some of these enzymes are what contribute to the sought after fresh juice flavor over standard juices. Since they are not pasteurized, cold pressed juices are able to provide even more health benefits and be packed with more flavor enhancing molecules.

Overall the major selling points of cold pressed juices are their freshness. With freshness comes a better tasting and healthier beverage. In addition to being fresh cold pressed juices are so great because of their simplicity of ingredients. Cold pressed juices allow people the freedom to live a healthy lifestyle and have a balanced diet without committing hours to cooking to achieve the same serving. One cold pressed green juice can be equivalent to 4lbs of produce which is a huge portion that would need to be cooked and seasoned if it wasn’t available in a convenient bottle sized serving.
