4 Essential Items for a Travel First-Aid Kit

Having to deal with a medical emergency while on travel can be extremely scary. You may not be able to have access to the same level of care as you would back home. Or maybe you are somewhere remote and need to treat the situation the best you can with no medical resources. Either way, having a first aid kit with you while traveling is something everyone should do and could literally save your life in certain situations. Let’s take a look at a few essential items that should be in a travel first-aid kit.

Disinfecting Gels and Wipes

Cuts are very common while traveling, especially if you’re going to be doing physical activities. You have to make sure that your first-aid kit has plenty of disinfecting agents in the form of wipes, gel, or spray. The first thing you want to do is neutralise any wound and make sure that it doesn’t lead to an infection. Having enough disinfectant will allow you to clean the wound immediately and prevent complications until it gets treated by a doctor.

Bandaids and Gauze

These will usually be the first thing you see in a first aid kit and are very important. These will allow you to block the flow of blood if there’s an open wound. It will facilitate healing and prevent foreign objects from getting in and causing an infection. Grazes are extremely common and can happen at any time. While they may seem minor at first glance, these can also deteriorate and get infected.

When it comes to gauze, we suggest you learn how to use it. It can be used for so many things. You can use it to block the blood flow, but also to make a splint in case someone has an injury, for instance.

The best types of gauze to have in a first-aid kit are individually packed square ones. If you want to know where you can find those, check out www.pharmacyonline.com.au. These won’t require you to cut them to size, which will make them much simpler to use.

Surgical Tape

You won’t be able to do much with gauze if you don’t have surgical tape to go with it. This will be essential if you’re trying to apply a bandage or gauze on a wound and secure it. While bandaids could do this if you’re in a pinch, this is why surgical was made for, so make sure you have some in your kit.

Scissors and Tweezers

You also need essential tools such as tweezers and scissors. Scissors will be needed if you want to cut bandages to size, and tweezers can be used to extricate foreign objects in wounds or remove splinters. You have to make sure those tools are in your checked bag when boarding, however, or security might take them away from you.

These are all items that should be in every travel first-aid kit. Make sure that you’re thoroughly prepared and look over the content multiple times before leaving.
