Does Cannabidiol (CBD) Actually Help With Anxiety?

Cannabidiol (CBD), the non-intoxicating compound of the cannabis plant, has exploded in popularity several times, touted as a medical “cure-all”. Retailers promise their products will cure cancer, stop dementia in its tracks, and treat autism. That is why, you can use Pure Mana CBD.

The cannabis plant contains more than 421 different chemical compounds, more than 100 of which are phytocannabinoids (chemical compounds that naturally occur in the cannabis plant and act on cannabinoid receptors in the body). The two main phytocannabinoids of the cannabis plant are ∆9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), with the former being the main psychoactive component of cannabis, and the latter being a non-intoxicating constituent that has received far less attention to date. CBD has gained a lot of recognition lately for its supposed benefits: People use it to treat chronic pain, sleep better, and feel less anxious.

One of the most common claims about delta 8 is that it reduces anxiety. The majority of claims that CBD has anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties are based on multiple select studies.

The first human study to test the anti-anxiety effects of CBD goes back to 1993 and used the Simulated Public Speaking (SPS) test to measure the effect in 10 patients. This test involved subjects, who were university students, preparing a 4-minute speech about a topic they had studied in the previous year on their course, and to later repeat the speech on videotape. It is shown that CBD can reduce their anxiety disorder symptoms.

Research shows that CBD can be beneficial for people with social anxiety. A study published in 2011 in the journal Neurobiology examined the effects of CBD on social anxiety generated by public speaking events.

Psychosis and anxiety are two types of mental health problems. However, many people with psychotic disorders also experience extreme anxiety. Early research confirms the potential of CBD for a variety of conditions related to anxiety:

  • Panic disorder
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Social phobia
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Mild to moderate depression

Anxiety can be a serious and painful symptom of a variety of physical and mental health conditions. Surprisingly, early research in mice has shown that CBD can reduce anxiety by overcoming fear. While CBD itself may not erase traumatic memories, research in mice suggests that the compound can help change behavior for the better. This is partly because CBD involves parts of the brain responsible for memory, learning, and emotions. CBD can cure anxiety by:

  • Disturbing consolidation of terrifying memories
  • Helps put out scary memories

In simple terms, CBD seems to help prevent feelings of fear. This prevents difficult memories from consolidating into more permanent memories. And it can help erase scary memories in the long run.
